Gay at Sentimental Stitches is reproducing a sampler she owns and here are my first 3 blocks.
I'm appliqueing the main block, then trimming to 10 1/2"
Ironing creases on the diagonal for corner diamond placement.
The eye- balling about 1/2" and applying them here.
It was dark by the time I took these photos last night so my background fabric looks different.
I'm using Moda Bella solid in Fig Tree Cream.
And I'm machine appliqueing with a tiny zig zag stitch in matching thread.
I gave up at 9 blocks on Benjamin Biggs, but I think I'll find these more interesting. Anybody else sewing along?
I went and downloaded the first three when I saw you mention this quilt at the beginning of the month. I started the first two in regards to prep for hand applique but haven't done more than that yet.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoy watching your progress. Do you buy a big quantity if the background for the specific quilt or just to have on hand?
ReplyDeleteI have been so tempted! I downloaded the first three patterns, but I am really trying to resist since I have so many commitments right now. I have loved this quilt since I first saw it last year. Especially the machine stitch quilting. So interesting. I'm so glad Gay has it now. It needed a good home. I love your blocks! hmm, maybe just one more project?
ReplyDeleteI'm a little busy so I will admire your work in progress !
ReplyDeleteLovely appliqué blocks Lori !
PS : Is Rene a good student ? ^^
I love your blocks. I have 2 prepped ready to applique. Just need to finish hand quilting my Henrietta quilt. 3 sides down and one to go. I plan on making my blocks smaller than Gay's. I want to do a different setting. Hugs
ReplyDeleteFusing first?
ReplyDeleteWonderful quilt blocks, I have done some small pieces with machine appliqué, like the idea for some quilts.

Lori que bonitos bloques!!
ReplyDeletebuena semana
I need to learn to machine applique! wonderful blocks!
ReplyDeleteReally the type of quilt that appeals to me. I just am up to my eyeballs with projects so I will join others in
ReplyDeleteAdmiring your progress
I'm really thinking about it. I could just slip in the appliqued stitching while I work on my Old Voices, right?
ReplyDeleteLove your blocks. I've downloaded the patterns and prepped the appliqué with freezer paper and starch. Planning on doing machine appliqué also. I'd like to use my stash of shirtings for the backgrounds, but am nervous about doing so. Too much work to have it turn out bad. What are your thoughts on using different shirting for the background. I need to decide soon, before the next blocks are posted.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a great idea! I love using a variety of shirtings for backgrounds. I think it would be a wonderful choice!!
DeleteI hope you come back here and see this reply, since you are a no-reply commenter and you didn't leave an email address.
I have completed one block and the other two are well on the way to completion, but have decided to baste the corner diamonds and applique them into place once I can start joining blocks together, then I can make sure they are correctly positioned as I was disappointed where some of the buds and leaves on the Ben Biggs quilt ended up.
ReplyDeleteThats a very good idea Fiona!
Deletenice sew along. I'm saving myself for BBs and hand quilting. I'll be happy to watch your progress.
ReplyDeleteDear Lori,
ReplyDeletewonderful blocks, this one is tempting me. What a beautiful project.
Greetings,
Sylvia
Very nice start, it looks good with the diamonds in the corners.
ReplyDeleteThey look great Lori, who knows you will probably return to that other quilt one day with renewed interest!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to following your progress. It's going to be gorgeous but I have too many other things 'in progress' to start yet another. LOL
ReplyDeleteFun to start a new applique project :0) your blocks look great!
ReplyDeleteI like the effect of the diamonds in the corners.
ReplyDeleteI have my patterns and was going to hand applique them, but I have 2 others on the go, so I may machine applique them, after seeing yours Lori. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou've been busy! Your blocks look great. You always have such perfect choices of fabrics!
