New Year Sewing

It was nice to stay indoors a bit on New Years Day with no work and no schedule, to get some prep work done in my sewing room.  The first of the year is my time to get some quilts completed and look ahead to this years quilting and sewing projects.

In preparation for my Stars in a Time Warp quilt I needed 2 more blocks. Corrine from Cocopatch blog sent me some lovely purple fabric (bottom star) that I wanted to include in my stars quilt and  I decided to use some of my French fabric in it as well. Here are those blocks. I hope to start cutting/sewing on it this weekend.

In preparation for quilts I've sent out I got labels made...

and binding.

Not super exciting, but at least I'll be ready!

The sewing machine man called and my machine will be in for about 2 more weeks because of some part that was missing. It wasn't even a part that was causing the problem. Aargh!

Happy winter Wednesday to ya'll!

  3. I usually make binding ahead but making labels is a brilliant idea!

  4. I usually make binding as the top is finished, but not the labels--I like that idea. I make mine on the computer so keep an ongoing list of labels needed.

  5. Great idea to be really ready!
I'm considering having my first "quilted by someone else" quilt this year.

  6. Love your labels. As soon as I get a quilt top finished I cut the binding. If I don't do this and wait too long to quilt it I can't fine the binding fabric. I have a large jar I put my bindings in. Hugs

  7. I am in the same mode, trying to reorganize my sewing room. I have a quilting machine coming and my machine needs a few fixes, so taking that in today, then i will be ready to sew and the machines will be ready to go. Wonderful blocks and fabrics.

  8. It's good to get labels done. I usually make them if I'm taking my quilt somewhere - like to a guild meeting for show and tell. I don't want to be scolded by not having a label on! However, I do have quite a few little quilts that need labels. I really should check to see how many I need.

  20. Thats a great idea to make labels when the top is finished and I always do the binding so I don't use it in another project. Thanks for all your wonderful handy advice! Have a great New Year!

  21. Interesting large print in that first star. We stayed home on New Year's Day. I enjoyed just playing all day.

  22. I love your labels Lori. Do you have an easy way to make them. I dont have the best handwriting - yours is very nice, but the pigma pens I use drag on the fabric which makes it worse. I iron a piece of fabric to freezer paper before I write on the fabric, then iron again to set it.
What do you do? I also like the idea of the fabrics stitched around the label.
