Country Roads Linky Party-

If you've sewed along with Humble Quilts before you know the linky party comes after the sewalong. Today is the day. Please add the link to your specific blog pot, not just your blog. If you do not have a blog, please send me a photo and I'll add your quilt as a link.

I found this book recently and since so many of us make little quilts I thought it would make a good addition to the giveaway.

Because our predominate color in Country Roads is cheddar/gold this is what I've come up with out of my stash.

If you add your link or send me a photo of your Country Roads you are automatically entered to win!

The winner is Number 37! Thanks for sewing along everybody!!

Country Roads Part 3 Finale

Here is my Country Roads little quilt finished.  I love it and the cheddar/gold is perfect for fall here in Central Oregon.
You ready to finish yours?
From your gold fat quarter cut four (4) 5 1/2" squares. Cut two (2) 4 1/2" squares and cut each once on the diagonal  for 4 half square triangles. These are the four corners of your quilt.
For the setting triangles cut two (2) 8 1/2" squares, then cut each one  twice on the diagonal for 8 total quarter square triangles.
Lay them out like the photo.

Sew them in rows, as shown. I like to sew my side triangles before sewing the corners. When assembled, hang up and admire your work!
Here was my inspiration quilt, (seen on ebay)
Of course if you make it larger you have more opportunities to mix it up.
Here's the same block in a controlled setting. Barbara Brackman's book calls it Country Lane and I thought it suited it well. (even though I ended up changing the name of my quiltalong)
Instead of a red border I opted to bind it in red.
Instead of the dreaded "Quilt as Desired" I thought I'd show you what I chose to do. And no, this isn't the big stitch! lol

My label still says Country Lane but I am going to change it. I hope you enjoyed sewing along and I hope you love your little creation!!

More of my France trip, including the quilt show, on Wednesday!
Happy Monday!

Country Roads Mystery Quiltalong Part 2

Country Road

Now you will take your black strips and from each strip cut four  (4)  1 1/2"x 2 1/2" rectangle. Using your 4 patches and 1 1/2" square, lay your block out as in the photo.
Sew together in three rows, pressing your seams toward the black. Sew the rows together. (Sorry I don't have a photo of one complete block)

Ta-Da! You have an adorable 5 1/2" block (finished it will be 5") Make 9 blocks and then admire your work.

When I am home from vacation I'll have mine completed and I'll give you the final part to finish up your little Country Roads Quilt.

Country Roads Mystery Quiltalong Part 1

In case you missed it, HERE is the requirements for Country Road Mystery Quiltalong.

Your blue strip is going to be a bit longer than your red strip. Start by cutting one (1) 1 1/2" square from your 9 blue strips. Then sew a red and blue strip together.
Press toward the blue. Then sub cut into eight (8) 1 1/2" rectangles. This is what you should have from each red and blue pair.
Match them up to make four (4) four patches.
This is what you'll have. You'll also have 9 -1 1/2" squares of your blues.

Do that with all nine of your red and blue strips. Pretty easy, huh? Admire your cute little 4 patches.

Next Monday I'll post the next step.

Country Roads Mystery Quiltalong

While prepping photos for this post I decided to change the name from Country Lanes to Country Roads. Keep reading and you'll see why.

Go ahead and play the video while you are scrolling through. There isn't too much reading to do.
Here's the fabric I used for the quilt, which will finish about 23x23.
Seems my running brings me to many country roads..... In the mountains

On the coast next to the ocean.
To little roads (turned paths) in the city.
 Back to the forests.

 Around lakes.
 In New Hampshire...
 And North Carolina......
Lotsa' Country roads waiting to be explored! I plan on exploring more in Paris, Alsace and Iceland next week!
Here's what you'll need for the quiltalong. (the measurements are not precise but will give you enough. You can always use 2 strips of varying lengths)
A variety of blues- you won't need much so dig into your strip or scrap bin. You'll only need 1 strip 1 1/2" x 15" of 9 different blues.
Just a little red too. You'll need 1 strip  1 1/2"x 12 1/2" of 9 different reds. I used one of these for my binding too, but you can wait on that.

The photo makes these look blue, but they are various shades of black. You'll need 1 strip
1 1/2"x 10 1/2"  of 9 different blacks.

To make a small scrap quilt interesting it is nice to vary to prints, some calico, some larger, some geometric. Don't overthink it.
For those of you on my facebook group you may have seen the cheddary gold amoeba fabric.
This particular photo looks a little washed out. Refer back to the top photo on this post to see a better color rendition. You'll need about 1 fat quarter of this cheddar/gold fabric.

My instagram feed this week.

That's it for now! You'll have the weekend to gather your goods. Monday I'll post the first step. I will be flying into Paris Monday afternoon, so I won't be able to  answer any questions promptly.

Take care and have a wonderful weekend.
