Sew the light side on your 4 patch, then the dark strip with the red square. Press toward your strip.
Keep building, making sure your dark strips are all on the same side.
And your light strips are all on the same side.
Ta-Da! Your block should measure 5".
You can have some fun with a few different layouts. I am partial to this setting, but this is your quilt, so do what you like. My blocks are laid out 4x5. I always sew my quilt together in sections. The above photos shows how I did it on this one.
You decide what you want to do as far as a border.
I LOVE this...I found some old reds last night that I bought YEARS ago that I am no longer in love with. I was going to throw them out or find them a new home, then I remembered your project. These reds aren't so ugly as 1-1/4 inch squares! Thanks for the inspiration...I've cut out the squares and set them aside to do this as a "leader" and "ender" project.
ReplyDeleteIn stitches,
Teresa :o)

These blocks are so fun to make - I will definitely not be able to stop at 20. They are also fun to play with! What a great quiltalong project Lori!!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is lovely - no errors noticeable to me.
I'll be ready to sew soon. It's a charming mini for sure.
ReplyDeleteExcept for the border my top is all pieced. And it's gorgeous if I say so myself. Thanks so much for the QAL. There's something about your QALs that strikes a chord with me. I like how their not the run-off-the-mill variety actually almost a little quirky? :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're adjusting to your mom's issues. Let's hope that the research in stem cells speeds up.
I'm still back on the previous step--and you thought I would have it all done! HA! : )
ReplyDeletelooks wonderful love the red in there, makes the quilt for me!

ReplyDeleteNow where is my list of "to dos"??
Thanks for sharing of your talent so freely, Lori.
I am ready to go as soon as I can find some time to sew the strips together. Can't wait to see what it will all look like when it is together. Hope to show you the results soon.
ReplyDeleteAhh lightbulb moment here, thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love this Lori. I am about to make a start on it. I shouldn't but can't help myself.:-)
ReplyDeleteSo cute. Wait. Super cute. Must do list!
ReplyDeleteAll blocks complete. Some sewn together. Will get the rest sewn together and cut border tonight. Goal: To be hand quilting in front of "Call The Midwives" and "Upstairs Downstairs" on Sunday night! I love this little quilt. If I can part with it, it will be a Christmas gift. If not, it will grace my table at work. Win-win. Thank you, thank you.
ReplyDeletewill be sewing all of the strips into blocks tomorrow.
ReplyDeletehaving a good time with this one and am thinking about doing it again using 1.5 inch squares and strips . . . and making a larger quilt.
