All Things Americana and a Humble Giveaway

As we celebrate Veteran's Day I thought it would be good to continue on with my patriotic theme.

Here is another panel of the Declaration of Independence I picked up along the way. I thought it would be very appropriate to put on the back of President Washington's quilt. Does anybody recognize the star on the right and have any idea why I would be putting that on the back of his quilt? (Lea, you cannot answer this question in the comments) The three little stars were extra and will easily find a home on the back.

I had some leftover patriotic blue and white toile that I'll piece into the back too.

No, this won't go on the back. Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant came a bit later. I thought Baum did an excellent job on this. This is one of the nicest panels I've ever seen. I plan on making a pillow and not a Lincoln quilt.

Now for a small humble giveaway. I have an extra Declaration of Independence panel and three Civil War General panels. Just let me know if you'd like one, if you have a preference, and I'll do a random drawing Saturday afternoon.
Please feel free to comment even if you don't want one.

  1. Isn't that Mrs. Washington star or something like that? I have the pattern for that star AND I have a pillow made that is on my sofa with that same star. :-) It was a fun one to make when I lived in England a few years back. Sure..put my name in for your drawing...I'm not terribly lucky these days but unless I try my chances would be none. LOL Hope your Veterans Day was nice...hubby spent 23 years in military before retiring...minds heavy today from his career losses etc.

  5. I love the panels - I would sooo much like to have them.
As to the name of the star - I don't remember seeing one exactly like this one. I would have named it "Pin your hopes on a star".

  11. I love your patriotic quilt and PLEASE include me in the Declaration of Independence drawing. I have a "thing" for Ben Franklin and even joke with my family to leave me and Ben alone while I drink tea from my Ben Franklin mug each morning. In another life I must have been one of his ladies! LOL

My dream is to make a quilt with Ben Franklin quotes etc and the Declaration would be fantastic to add to the planning stages.

  16. Don't know about the star?
I'd like a chance to win the Civil War Generals panel. I'm a member of Questers, which is a national oragnization of people who have a heart for restoration and preservation of history, antiques, and historical sites. I could use that for a fund raiser for historic preservation.
    Keeping my fingers crossed. ;D

  24. I found that star on the Quilter's Cache site, Martha Washigton's Star! Of course you would want to honor the woman behind the man.

I am working on the Civil War Love Story quilt and would love the generals panel to put on the back.

    Thanks for the chance.

  29. Your border on the red quilt is perfect. I, too, include a lot of reds in my quilts. After all, I believe in Freddy Moran's creed: "Red is a neutral." Thank you for all of the inspiration. I would enjoy making a patriotic quilt also.
