Benjamin Biggs Wedding Quilt

My Benjamin Biggs wedding quilt top is done! Gay generously offered this as a free BOM. You can purchase it HERE. I opted to stop at 9 blocks. My quilt is approx 70" square- there are many more blocks in this quilt.
I've got a helper now.

I tried outside first, but it was a bit windy.
I machine appliqued using fusible and a small zig zag stitch.

When using muslin background I usually use a variety to lend to the vintage look. Plus it is easier for me to purchase that way!
In my humble sort of way, I put the top of the red flower at the corner then moved my blue swags around get them under the red piece.
This isn't the corner, but as you can see I wasn't shooting for perfection.

I'm really happy with my decision to do blue and red.
I started with this color blue, ran out....

switched to this blue, ran out........
And ended with this one!

Thanks for the fun quilt Gay and Brenda!

Here's my Instagram feed for this week!

Have a wonderful weekend!

  15. Hi Lori-Perfection is overrated! Isn't that what makes it special? Only you know those tiny little flaws and most people won't even notice. I'm sometimes a perfectionist. You have to "pick and choose your battles" when it comes to sewing/quilting. If it bothers me, I 'make' it right, if not, what the heck! Your applique work is great.

  16. Congrats on the finished top! I love your humble style. Once again you encourage me to finish my BBiggs start. I missed some of the blocks, so already planned to just make the blocks that got downloaded. My 'Just takes 2' is the same way, but more of the blocks are made. Thanks for sharing. p.s. i love your helper.... she is adorable.

  21. Looks fantastic. Every quilt doesn't need to be 100 x 100. Love the border and all the blues, great color choice.

  22. The blocks are beautiful. I love the border. That was a lot of work too. love that you kept it Humble. I would stop at 9 as well.

  23. Love this quilt so much! The border is a real fave for me. I've been wanting to do something similar and will keep it in mind for future quilts. I really admire how you own the wonkiness of your application. It really does give it a wonderful 'human touch' in my opinion!

  25. I have two blocks finished, I think I like your applique process, it would help me get them finished, I'm so slow at applique. Like you said "How long does it need to last?' It does have to get finished first. Congratulations on another beautiful finish!! Happy Easter!

  29. You did an excellent job. Love the humble swag. :^) Running out of the blue fabric only make it more vintage. Since it is machine applique, will you machine quilt it? ;^)

  31. Your B Biggs came out so beautiful! I love the colors, the red and blue instead of the red/ green. Really smart change. And perfect fabric choices. You resolved the corner swags really well too.

  37. Pretty finish. Seventy inches square is a good size. I will have to review and see how big the quilt would be with all the blocks the patterns offer.

  38. LOVE it!! Do you recall what fabric line or the manufacturer of the red paisley fabric is in the Apple Pie Ridge Star block (right, center in the first photo)? I know it's a couple of years old fabric, but looking for something similar. Thanks for sharing your great finish!!!

  44. Many cheers for finishing your Benjamin Biggs quilt top!! Still plugging away on the borders here but that long ago Cherry Tree quilt has priority - one more block to quilt then the borders before Benjamin gets full attention. Happy stitching to you!!
