I had quite a few questions about the Gwennie Inspired Medallion Quilt. A few of you are new quilters and some international, so I'll try and explain it a little more.
But first.....a few shots of basket blocks around my house right now!
Okay, for those of you that are considering joining in. What you will do first is make a basket block for the center of your medallion. The only rule is, you make the rules! You decide on fabric, pieced or applique and size of your block. Do you want it to fit your bed? Or hang on a wall? It's up to you.
Then next month we will all show our centers and Cynthia will name the theme for the next round. You can interpret that theme however you'd like. If she chooses triangles then get creative and make borders with that theme. We aren't revealing the theme until the next month, so we don't know it yet.
If you have been inspired by Gwen Marston, let let that shine through.
Anything else? I hope that helps!
Happy Wednesday!
Love this plan - just what I need right now, to be the maker of my own rules!
ReplyDeleteGreat explanation and I can't believe you have ALL those baskets in your house! I love them all. I picked out the background fabric for my center last night. I am really going to try and honor Gwen by totally "winging" it!
ReplyDeleteLove this post, Lori. As you may recall, I've never met a basket block that I didn't adore! Not sure about joining in yet, but giving it some thought.
ReplyDeleteI may join in too! I say "may" because I have SO many projects going at once that I am almost dizzy.......but happily so! Anyhow, heading to the sewing room now to pick out my pattern and fabric...........ha ha!
ReplyDeleteYeah, isn't it fun?!? I'm getting a little dizzy myself. LOL
DeleteThank you soooo much for these explanations !! And your blocks are so beautiful !!
ReplyDeleteI began my medaillon this morning....
I am SO tempted - I admire Gwen enormously, I love baskets, and I love making up my own rules. Hmmmmmm.....
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of starting this with a basket block I already have. It will make a good medallion center and it will finally have a home. Thanks for organizing this! I appreciate all the effort you put into your blog and these quilt-a-longs!
ReplyDeleteI took two workshops with Gwen...loved them! She inspired me to cut up an top I had made but didn't love then sew it into a wonky star that made me happy! Love baskets too...hummm
ReplyDeleteThat sounds fun and I do need a quilt for my bed, a large basket piece would be a nice start.
ReplyDeleteJust not sure what I would do after that and if I can do the theme, my brain doesn't always work well these days;)

Did I say I was just going to watch? Weakening...

ReplyDeleteWonderful Baskets!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the information, Lori.
ReplyDeleteEverything's clear now, as most of you , I have many projects on my hands, but this inspire me a lot, and I'm sure I will enjoy working on this.
Greetings from Italy!
Rina.
Sounds like fun. I will get busy on my basket this week :)
ReplyDeleteI like the loops on the top of the red vase/basket block. Is that something you just cut or was it from a pattern?
ReplyDeleteI just learned of this QAL via Quiltdivajulie. I have a strong feeling I'm going to be playing along... ;- )
ReplyDeleteLove Medalluon quilts! Can't say no. I'm in... already in progress ☺
