I purchased this humble quilt from a friend's sister because the style didn't really suit her decor. It came from Arkansas and it looks to be from 1890-1910's. That fan quilting is amazing and I even used it to make a fan quilting pattern for myself to use on another quilt.
The back has faint signs of feedsack writing. This is the clearest section.
It appears to say B-R-I-C

ReplyDeleteThat quilt is a real treasure. The hand quilting is fabulous. But I'm totally in love with how interesting the blocks actually are. Some very square and others are not. Wonderful vintage quilt.

ReplyDeleteThis is such a great quilt for so many reasons, Lori! You are lucky to have it. Even though it was made a 100 or more years ago it has a modern look to it. And the quilting: can't you imagine it on a quilting frame for a quilting bee with the ladies sitting around the edges quilting their sections with the women on each side starting from right to left? You didn't say but I wonder how far apart the quilting lines on the fans are. I'm guessing maybe 1/2"? Thanks for sharing this gem.

ReplyDeleteIt is Beautiful! Someone has been taking great care of it. All the red is in place and from the pics there are no broken quilt stitches. It is well done and looks like it never saw a sun. You are lucky to get this and am sure you will cherish it as all it's owners. Did this originally come from a weathy home? Do you know any of it's history. I have an idea...
