Buhl Bushong Quilt- Virginia Quilt Museum

About 2 weeks ago I mentioned in the Facebook Humble Quilts group I was starting a new project and was asking for background suggestions. Well, this is the quilt! It is a Block of the Month by the Virginia Quilt Museum- Price super reasonable at $5 month! Check it out HERE.
There is a blog HERE. And a facebook group HERE.

So far the patterns are accurate and well done and for the center sections the fearless leaders are showing and giving a few options to get it accomplished!!
I'm getting a late start so I've only got the bottom border prepped!
I plan on doing my usual machine applique. I'm excited to start the centers.

After many great suggestions I ended up ordering Moda Bella natural. Small shirtings and toile were terrific options, but I was also trying to save money and a solid background saved me considerable. I also had a gift card that I was able to use, so that helped.

This is what I have prepped and ready to applique.

If you join in on the fun let me know!

  4. Great start! You border is wonderful. I haven’t sewn mine down yet either. For the center, I’m having a friend laser cut the pieces and Will machine piece those spikes. No paper piecing for this gal. It will be fun to follow each other’s and everyone else’s progress. Yes, never forget. USA Strong!

Do you do your machine applique with monofilament thread?

  8. This is such an exciting project! I love your fabric selections - especially the flowers in the second picture far right - gorgeous pink/red. I look forward to seeing your center blocks - I would expect them to be paper pieced but I saw somewhere someone had appliqued.

  12. Absolutely a beautiful quilt - hope you enjoy the sew-along.

Even from afar, here in Australia, we will never forget, somehow the world seem to change that day. I remember that my husband & I were getting ready for bed, when the horror of that event flashed across our tv screen. We stayed up for hours, in total disbelieve and then unable to sleep.
