Last Monday I asked if Michelle was interested in going to a quilt show and hiking in Washington. Life is good when friends say YES! LOL
So, quilts I'll show on Wednesday, today I'll share our outdoors.
I had a bit of time to kill in Portland waiting for Michelle to finish work, so went for a quick jaunt in Powell Butte Nature Park in Portland. I just LOVE the forest!!
Then we took off to Bremerton, WA.
The town itself is pretty old and so was one of the motels that had rooms available, We aren't snobs and only need clean beds. In the morning this was the view from our balcony!! What the room lacked in class it gained with the view!
The weather was pretty lousy after the quilt show so we opted to drive the 30 minutes to visit this quilt shop in Port Gamble. Oh my goodness! This town was so darn charming!!
The shop used to be a horse stable.
The weather cleared and the employee told us of some hiking trails just a few minutes away.
We ended up in twisted trails of Port Heritage Forest park.
After returning to our hotel and cleaning up we had a lovely meal of seafood. I opted for cioppino. If it is on the menu, I'll order it! My favorite!!
Cioppino, is a fish stew originating in San Francisco, California. It is an Italian-American dish and is related to various regional fish soups and stews of Italian cuisine.
Cioppino is traditionally made from the catch of the day, which in San Francisco is typically a combination of Dungeness crab, clams, shrimp, scallops, squid, mussels and fish, all sourced from salt-water ocean, in this case the Pacific. The seafood is then combined with fresh tomatoes in a wine sauce.
We opted for one more short hike to a waterfall!
Peekaboo at a bit of blue sky!
There really is something to be said for women supporting one another! If your girlfriends aren't doing this, then find some new ones!
I just finished this book and I think I saw it on Diane's blog. I feel pretty good about making time for what is important to me. What about you?
Looks like you are as lucky as I am to have great girlfriends who say "yes" to fun things whenever possible. It's life's little pleasures that keep us going strong! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a FUN weekend! Sounds like it was loaded with fun. Nature, exercise, friendship, quilt shop. Pretty much everything important to me too! The cioppino looked amazing!

ReplyDeletesuch beautiful surroundings and sharing friendship is the ultimate...loved the ferns on the floor of the forest and all the photos actually - my daughter loves being out in nature and hiking - she has very severe depression and trees are her favorite thing to hug and be around

ReplyDeleteThat quilt shop reminds me of one I visited in NY state several years ago that used to be a train depot.
Great hikes -- great friends. We can't ask for more. Port Gamble is on my list for this summer - fun to see the twisted paths of Port Heritage Forest. Looking forward to the quilts tomorrow!!
