Chasing Summer- July Update

 Summer has been great but I've missed you! 

I'm slowly getting this quilted! YAY

I guess when you out of practice this happens!

I was looking for some little flags and Sunny was generous and shared with me! Thank you again!

Our summer weather has been seriously amazing (fires and smoke started a few days ago) so I've been getting out when I can. Here's a recap. 

Made it 8600' on Mt Bachelor and because I was solo I wasn't keen on going over another snow field. It was fun. I was able to get a free ride on the chair lift down. (after I hiked back to the chair lift)

We had a DeJarnatt family camp.

There were 3 tiny dogs that Elsa would have liked to play with but they ignored her- so she slept!

My niece and her family came to Central Oregon before  family camp for vacation and they experienced THIS! We are grateful that everyone was okay and the pickup was in the driveway and not under the trees in the grass. So much to be thankful for. 

Among the burnt debris somewhere was Cory's mom's wedding ring. 

FOUND! After about 2 hours of meticulous sifting. We aren't sure how it will clean up, but finding it was a start. 

This past weekend I day hiked. 

Then backpacked with a friend.

After 12 miles I was whooped!

We really enjoyed watching the world cup and reading social media of the non-American fans discovering the USA! It was quite a unifying time. (If you were looking for it)

I think Erling Haaland found a few new fans!

Can't wait to get to Europe in September!

Fun on a Friday

I got the top of Liberty Eagle completed! This is a Jan Patek patten that I've tweaked a little. I hope top get it basted and quilted soon!

 

I had one of these little quilts and at a guild trunk show, Patriotic Quilts,  brought it for table decor. A women, (not a quilter)  who brought her mother to the guild meeting asked if she could buy it! So I had to make another! The center flags I removed from a stick so there is no seam allowance. Years ago I used to have some fabric that had little flags on it. Does anyone have any of that with flags about 4"x6"? I'd love to purchase or trade. Email me at humblequilts@gmail.com

Tomfoolery Thursday!

I have been SLOW working on my USA 250th quilt, but the end is near! At least to get the top made! I'm already contemplating how to quilt it. 

My son and his girlfriend came over this past weekend and asked if I wanted to hike. We managed a hot desert hike! Any time we can spend with them is great!

They were headed to the popular Sisters Rodeo!

The following day a friend and I went through a lovely meadow....

To get to this beautiful alpine area! 

Monday hubby and I (and Elsa) escaped for a quick 2 night camping trip. It was so peaceful. 

There is an eagles nest on the lake with 2 eaglets- these guys kept an eye out for food! So cool to see them swooping into the lake for a fish. 

We were able to manage a short hike with Elsa. Couldn't believe how lovely these lupine were!! 

That's what I've been up to. Looking forward to summer kickoff with an outdoor concert this weekend. 

 

Fun on a Friday

Hello friends!

Here is a little side project I have going. Sending these off to a friend today. 

I am fairly close to having the top completed to my 250th USA quilt!

I've been following social media on several visitors here in USA for the FIFA World Cup. It has been very refreshing! They are finding joy in the small things! Country music by Ella Langley, free soda refills, Bucees and college stadiums. 

 

I've been getting some hiking in as well as I have a big end of the summer goal.

Hiking South Sisters will be a training hike if I can score permits. 

Desert hikes closer to home will be on the agenda too!

Fun on A Friday

I picked this up at the Old Country Store in Intercourse this spring and forgot to share it with you! I passed it several times then knew I'd regret it. I love it so much!

My first trip to the Old Country store I purchased a locally made Scherenschnitte that I treasure and I think this will be the same!

It is signed Mary Jane.

I've been taking advantage of warmer temps too!

Did a long loop around Timothy Lake with my daughter. 

Did a long one night backpack to get physically ready for the season. It was a tough 21 miler over 2 days. I felt pretty rough the first night but better then next day. Then drove right to Walla Walla for the guild.

It's been a good start!

 

Multifarious Monday

I made a quick trip to San Francisco for a Northern CA Meet the Teacher event. I think it went great and have my first booking for 2027!

You have 3 minutes to give your spiel....

And a total of 6 quilts telling about your trunk shows and workshops. I think it went great and made some good connections and gave a hug to an old friend. (Not old in age!) Hi Nancy! I loved seeing you!

 On my way home I had snow locally! Oh fickle spring!

Then we had a lovely day! My son and his girlfriend came and went hiking with me. I love this picture so much!

I needed mileage so I opted to take the river trail and they went up and over! I hoofed it pretty good so I wouldn't keep them waiting and I beat them! It was fun to see them coming down the ridge.  (They are right in the middle)

My SIL passed away in 1986 at the age of 29. My other SIL had this unfinished from her ever since then.

When she heard Rene did a stitchery for me she gave this to me to give to Rene. I'm sure my SIL made this when she was working on cross stitch and embroidery. My daughter was thrilled with it and when we get together we'll try and figure out how she can complete the partially completed cross stitch and give it to her cousin. He was 5 years old when his mom died so it is nice to have things and meant something to her. 

My little swap quilt is going out in the mail today! I hope everyone is making progress.
