Pressing Mat and Backpacking

For my birthday my friend, Michelle, gave me this wool pressing mat cleaner. It has fine teeth that picks up a small layer of threads and wool.

Looks better to me.
Anybody else try this tool? Your thoughts?

I told you I was off on an adventure this weekend. Well, we hiked a 27.5 mile stretch of the Pacific Crest Trail starting on  Thursday.
I grew up north of Seattle and went out camping quite a bit in the forests with my family. I love the desert, where I am now, but LOVE the forest and big ole trees.

And since yesterday was Flag day in the USA, I had to get a photo of where we ended our hike.

Thanks for coming along with me!

  2. I just got a wool pressing mat and haven't even used it yet. I'll keep that cleaner in mind however. Are you guys going to aim for the entire PCT or just doing it for the heck of it? I am impressed that you and your friend do this.

  6. That looka like a great tool, next time I will visit your country I will look for it....(hopefully soon....but I am afraid not...)
Impressive how you hiked the trail for over 27 miles. I don't know if I would be that brave to sleep in a tent in the middle of nowhere with all kind of animals around me..... I admire you!

  8. I have to admit that most of the time when I use my wool mat I have a towel or piece of muslin over it. But I am curious about that tool for some of the other uses mentioned.
You amaze me, Lori! As a younger woman, I used to go backpacking, but now I can barely sleep a few hours in our A-frame trailer with a gel-infused foam pad on the bed. Back and hip issues make sleep elusive many nights even on my nice mattress at home. I know you are a few years younger than I am, but not THAT many. :) Keep it up. Wish I could join you. I, too, grew up camping in forests, but that place looks incredible!

  12. I have great memories of Washington's forests...as a kid we visited my mom's sister and her family, who lived near the coast. Every time I smell raspberries and blackberries, I think of Washington.

Thank you for honoring our flag...it's refreshing and inspiring.

  13. Thank you for taking us along on your hikes, etc. Love that foggy look through the trees, moisture in the air = mystery. Have a beautiful day.
