Mid Week Check In

I'm prepping well ahead for the January retreat. Trying to decide if I need more half square triangles or not. My favorite method can be found HERE

Coming up in my world- This weekend we are hoping to get together with our kids for a casual dinner for Christmas in Portland. Cory and I are going to see Air Supply in concert, followed by the Scandinavian Festival on Saturday. This has been a fun tradition for us. My grandfather was Danish, although my DNA says I'm only 15% Nordic.

Rise and shine early Sunday to bring Cory and his brother to the airport where they will be flying to North Carolina to volunteer for rebuilding that area after the devastating landslides caused from Hurricane Helene a bit over a year ago. My hubby went last December to help the clean up efforts, also with Samaritan's Purse.

Then Monday there will be an in person court for the criminal charges against the girl who recklessly caused the death of 2 people and changed my daughter's life. Thankfully my daughter has recovered, almost fully. Mentally it will be a difficult time since all the hearings have been virtual. We will meet the parents of the newly married couple who had their life snuffed needlessly. It will be a hard day. Oregon is soft on any crime so it is likely she will not have consequences.

I will have the week that Cory is away to prepare for quilt retreat! I'll also be preparing space bags and clothing that was donated to take to Guatemala! It should be a good week.

That's it for me. If you have completed your Summit Stitches quilt top  feel free to send me a photo at humblequilts@gmail.com and I can add it to the link!

  2. I'm so glad you have retreat coming in January. It will be a nice getaway after the court case which looks to be a difficult time for you, your daughter, and the parents. Enjoy your weekend with Cory. Sounds like a fun weekend!

  3. Thank you to your family members who have helped with Helene recovery efforts! My husband is part of a group of men from our church (located here in NC) that have gone once a month for a week since Helene hit to help with repairs. They are playing to continue doing so this year. They are always encouraged by people who come from afar! Praying for your family this week .

  4. Sounds busy with some fun parts. I would love to go tooo an Scandinavian Fest, I rem you go almost every year. Bless Cory and brothers for helping rebuild and not letting the disaster be forgotten.
I'll be keeping you and your daughter in my thoughts. I know this will be so hard.

PS I make HST same but I think there's more blocks involved. I did one method once where it was two long bias strips, then the triangles were cut along the seams. Was really great for a cheddar and white project with just two fabrics.

  5. I have been making HST every time I just have a little bit of time to sew - not sure what they will become but it is low anxiety sewing. So good that you can be there with your daughter on such a hard day. Your love and support have been important to her recovery.

  6. Sounds like highs and lows for you in the near future. Will keep the whole family in my prayers, in the work you are doing for others, and the challenges you are facing.
Oh, I had hoped to have Summit finished by now, but still have half of the 4-patches to make before I can assemble and quilt. Possibly done before the new year, but there is sure a lot going on to keep me from accomplishing that!
