Creative Mess

What a mish mash I have on my design wall. There aren't enough hours in the day to get all I want accomplished. I've got my Flowers project, hst sashing,  a new Valentine/red/pink mini, my antique signature block, (bought a frame, it looked like crap) and a background for a Halloween project!

My sewing table isn't much better......

Please tell me I'm not the only one with long strips of batting hanging around. LOTS of strips. It is really annoying. I put mine to use once in awhile.

Overlap them a little then use a big zig-zag stitch to sew it together.

Trim some of the overlapping backing.

Use.

August projects

This is the only thing I have to show right now. I have been working on a project but I can't tell you what it is yet. I'm going to do this Jan Patek project in wool on cotton and it will be perfect for the autumn vacation we have planned.

Sewing room emptied! I'm thinking about painting as long as the room will be empty and the carpet will be pulled up. If you love your sewing room walls, please tell me what color they are and send me a photo. I'm always partial to eggshell, since it is so light and easy to work with. (yes, boring!)

I'm looking forward to cleaning what's left in there and giving it  a bit of an update.

Many of you asked about my quilt rack. This is how it looks. The rods are closet rods. You would only need to put in 3 rods unless the quilts you want to display are very small. These are not small quilts so I cannot fit quilts on each rod.

Thanks for being patient while I enjoy summer. The last two mornings I've woke to a brisk fall feel. Tomorrow morning I'll put on a pair of gloves for my sunrise run. Summer is coming to an end soon.

I Interupt this Quilt Blog....

To bring you a bit of life's excitement!

I couldn't stop with just one jump. I think I've caught the bug!!

It was a beautiful spring  day and I was so excited. The last time (first jump) the weather was cloudy and chilly, but this time I waited for the forecast to be sunny and clear before committing. And it was. That is Mt Jefferson off in the distance.

Right about the middle of the screen is the jump zone. It is looking pretty small and we are barely in the sky!

Three Sisters mountains in the distance. I climbed the one on the right last August. It was the hardest physical thing I've ever done.

The flags are on both sides of the landing zone. Wind is your friend on landing.  As you can see in this photo there is NO wind. The guy I was tandem with let the ground crew know what to expect when he yelled, "Coming in hot!" We had a bit of a tumble on the landing, but it is considered a good landing when you can walk away!

This is not a peace sign, it is 2,  as in jump #2. I love this photo even though it isn't very flattering. I was so excited! Next up? Class so I can jump alone. Whoop! Whoop!

My 50th Year Recap

Today is my last day of being 50 years old. What a fun and memorable year! What I set out to do was celebrate by doing something special every month that I was 50 and in that way I would be celebrating all year long. In no particular order:

A week later we went on a Caribbean cruise.

Made extra special memories with extra special friends in Vermont.

Had fun with long time quilt friends at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show.

The tattoo sums this year up for me. If you've been putting off things you would like to do, figure out why you aren't doing them and take some steps to make your dreams a reality.

The days will tick by, they will turn into weeks, then months, then years. Are you going to watch the world go by? Or be a part of it?


The bottom line is :

Spring has Finally Sprung

When I know I will be in Portland and have a few minutes to stop by the quilt shop, my main foray is the remnant section at Fabric Depot.  Since most of the quilts I make are scrappy this works out perfect for me since generally there is nothing over a yard hanging. Instead of paying $7-10 dollars a yard I'll save my money and spend it on things like the trip to NYC. I don't really have room for tons of fabric anyway.

 Look at these lovely little pieces of fabric I got. All together I bought 1 5/8 yards for less than $7. They are having an outdoor sale going on through out the summer and there are always bargains to be had. I didn't have time to head outside this day.
Now that the nicer weather is here I don't think I'll be blogging as much. I've been spending my time outdoors doing this:

I took a fun class with some other women and we were doing a practice race. I'm sure I'll never be the first one the break the tape! LOL  I've really been enjoying myself and plan on doing more.

It is an excellent way for me to spend time with my kids too. When I turn 50 (In one year) I want to be active, healthy, feeling great and ready to conquer the next decade.
Obviously I still love to quilt and love to blog. I won't be answering comments like I have been in the past, unless you have a question or something that needs a return email. I'm sure you all will understand.

Random Musings

 Not much sewing going on so I thought I'd post some random photos. Thank goodness for you all I don't do this very often as I do take quite a few pictures. This fiery red maple tree is in our back yard. It is giving us quite a show this fall.

 I made a quick trip to my Dad and stepmom's in Moses Lake, WA this past weekend. Her flowers are still trying to bloom.

 My adorable neighbor girl and her friend brought me these flowers with the note. They were not collecting money but raising awareness about animal abuse.

I hope you are all enjoying your fall. I'm hoping to get some sewing done this week now that one of our employees is back from vacation.
