Joanna S Rose Exhibit Red and White Quilts

I'm sure many of you will remember that I was able to attend the big red and white quilt exhibit in New York City spring of 2011. The quilts were exciting, seeing my quilt friends was exciting, my first time in the big apple was exciting and it was also my first big trip with my daughter. That was exciting and the entire trip was completely memorable. 

We did an awesome harbor tour. Such a fun way to see the city and Lady Liberty.

We saw amazing quilts at the museums.

And of course, the main event- 700 red and white quilts on display.

I mentioned before that the International Quilt Museum has displayed many of Joanna Rose collection. I considered going to NE and seeing them on display, but have since changed my mind. I saw 700 of them in an amazing display and that is what I'll tuck away in my memory. 

BUT the quilt museum has an amazing virtual gallery! Best I've seen online. I would encourage you to check it out, especially if you will not be able to make it to the museum in person. They've done a really spectacular job!

Infinite Variety Revisited 2022

It is official! Quilts from the Red and White exhibit will be on display April 1, 2022 to September 10, 2022 at the International Quilt Museum in Lincoln Nebraska!

Fleur de Lis

The International Quilt Museum’s Quilt of the Month comes from the upcoming exhibition, Joanna S Rose Collection of Red and White Quilts, on view from April 1st to September 11th in the West Gallery. Mrs. Rose’s collection of Red and White quilts became a memorable part of quilt history when her husband partnered with The American Folk Art Museum to display over 600 of her red and white American quilts in the Park Avenue Armory for her 80th birthday. The exhibition, Infinite Variety: Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts, was the largest exhibition of quilts ever held in NYC at the time.  “Fleur de Lis” is a gem of Mrs. Rose’s collection of red and white quilts, and its history has been well documented. It’s quite rare to know why a quilt was made, which is the reason we are featuring “Fleur de Lis” as March’s Quilt of the Month.

If you attended in NYC you are likely to never forget it!

It certainly won't be as exciting as NYC but I have asked my daughter if she'd like to revisit.
