My New Old Bernina

Last month while giving a class online one of the students, (hahaha, she was much more experienced than me!) She mentioned she used to have a Bernina 830 Record. She used it many years until it wore out! She loved it and had some extra feet that she had with her machine and wanted to know if I could use them. I had the one foot that came with the machine and purchased a 1/4" foot that has the edge on it. (not my fav but all I could find)
Beth was so generous! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

My package arrived this week and I had a chance to check it out closer.

This will be helpful!

For free motion quilting! Whoop! Whoop!

<Squeal> Even a walking foot for quilting!

Now, when autumn arrives I'll be ready to start sewing more regularly!

I'm backpacking all next week. I may try and post a few times but I will be making comments by approval only.  I've been hit by spam frequently lately and I will not have access to delete them.

Take care and be well.

Bernina Record 830

Several years ago my nephews grandmother died and he asked me if I would like her sewing machine. When I went to the house to pick it up I saw it was a wonderful old Bernina. Of course I would give it a home! I made an appt to get it cleaned and that is when I realized I didn't have the electrical cords or foot pedal.  The story gets a bit sad, but my nephew's dad moved into the house and really fell into drinking and became a raging alcoholic. No matter what I tried I couldn't not get that pedal! I tried to get my nephew to help me, I snapped a photo and put it on the door and asked him to find it but there was never any response. Later, they foreclosed on the house and pretty much the entire contents got thrown into the dump. (likely the bernina foot pedal!)

In 2015 I ran a half marathon in Seattle with my friends and Laurie brought a bernina foot pedal and I brought my machine. The machine came to life but the pedal was full speed or off, so I passed on getting it from her.

Well, a few more years went by and you all gave me some great ideas on how to get this beauty going.

I decided I would try and get the original equipment. Look at this!! I was so excited. The light came on but nothing else happened. I was so disappointed. It is winging its way back to the Ebay seller and an aftermarket foot is winging it's way to me.

I've been in touch with a man who is coming to my town to clean and service machines and one of them will be this Bernina!

Crossing my fingers.....

Have a fantastic weekend!

Looking for....

I have this great hearty old Bernina....

That still needs a foot pedal for. Does anyone have experience with aftermarket pedals? Or a reliable source for foot pedals? I'd like to get it running then pass along my Viking.

I had an amazing weekend!
Friday started off here:

BalsamRoot and lupine are in their prime right now on the Columbia River Gorge. I had some time and stopped by for an afternoon in the sun! So incredible!

Then I made my way to meet two friends for an overnight backpacking trip.

The desert is about the only assessable area this time of the year.
This is Ancient Lake by Quincy, WA

Dusty Lake is where we pitched our tents. Was great to meet up with friends I haven't seen for some time.

Have a super fantastic day!

Sunshine on a Wednesday!

After the video from last week several people asked me about this little quilt. I started it in an applique class with Gwen Marston. She showed us how to make our own pattern to make our quilt unique. It was supposed to be a 4 block quilt, but I opted to stop at one. Wish I would have continued!

A comment was made on Monday about small half square triangles getting pulled into the throat plate. Above is a standard throat plate. I have the wide one on because I've been doing machine applique.
Here's one that only has the small hole instead of the more open horizontal opening. This is super helpful to have on when using small pieces, actually just piecing in general.  I hope that helps!

Have a fantastic Wednesday!

A New Sewer! 1857 and Swap

My daughter came for a short visit. She wanted to finish her kimono robe she was making in her sewing class.

It just so happens that Pam from Library Gal Quilts posted this machine for sale on Facebook March 5th and it was priced very reasonably. My daughter has been renting a pfaff machine at the Portland fashion Institute and loves it. After a few texts back and forth we sealed the deal! I figured I'd get it from Pam when she came to the Sisters show in July. But thanks to her and 3 friends, I surprised Rene by having it at the house for her visit!!
This kimono robe is what she brought to finish on my machine. Instead she got to finish it on her machine!! (Early birthday present!) Isn't that robe cute?! Love her fabric choice.

Elsa gave her approval too!

My 1857 blocks are complete for this month.

My poor hearts are a little wonky.
Love this one!

Super cute tools!

If you commented that you wanted to be in the doll quilt swap, but never sent me your MAILING address, then you are not in the swap! I cannot look up everyone's information from last years and don't want to assume your address is the same.

PLEASE, read the post again and follow the rules. With that said, we are having a lot of interest and I'm so excited!

Elsa is at the bottom of her class, but I expect her to excel rapidly! LOL She hasn't been socialized and that is her biggest problem.....she is very vocal about it!!

Have a grand Wednesday!
