Eternal Sunshine

I love the sunshine, but it isn't eternal! As a volunteer for Quilt Festival in Houston we were to make a garment. Since I'm not a big garment maker I made an apron. (using Amy Butler's Eternal Sunshine line)

Love the fabric, dislike the color of the pockets.
I removed them and have a little leftover fabric that I'll try and make another couple of matching pockets.
It's a reversible apron so I'll have to add the pockets by hand. I kept the bright pockets on this side and may try a little embellishment. Porter is even trying to decide if he likes it or not.

Bear making really didn't prepare me for assembling this like I thought it would. It has a few humble mistakes that will stay in. It is an apron, after all.

Rare Bear and Giveaway Winner

This cute unstuffed bear was my garment practice! And also for a good cause:
Sheryl, who I will be getting to know at Houston this fall writes:
Last year I became involved in the Rare Bear movement. This is an army started by Dr. Christina Waters and her mother, who is a quilter! Dr. Waters does research in rare childhood diseases. There are lots of statistics but the short end is: her mother started making bears out of her cotton quilt leftovers to gift to these children who are suffering from these rare diseases , and the "army" is those of us who are volunteering to make these bears.
Mine isn't very creative, but think it will be loved regardless.
Here's my Instagram feed for the past 2 weeks!

It sounds like a few of you have been booted off of lists.... I'm in good company then. LOL

Without further ado Barbara Woods, you are the winner of the magazine. Please send me your mailing address and I'll get it into the mail.

Let's have an awesome weekend!

Banished! And a Giveaway

I've been banished like an unmatched sock!!
You all know  I love to work with wool as well as cotton. I've done quite a few fun projects, like this unfinished one,
 And this beauty...
 And this one...
Some time ago I posted the Rebekah Smith mystery on my blog. I looked at all the details on the facebook group and never once did I see anything in writing that it was a big secret not to share. As soon as I found out it wasn't supposed to be shared I removed the blog post immediately and told them it was me who posted it. (never did I try to cover anything up) Several folks jumped my butt and were "appalled" that I would break the rules. Well, I found out this week that before I got a chance to remove the blog post it had been pinned on Pinterest. I was "reported"! (this is a couple months later) What does that mean? Is there really people out looking to report people? Well, that was the last straw and they banished me from the group. At first I felt bad, but then I felt bad for people that were cruising the web looking for troublemakers and rule breakers like me. I guess I'll have to wait for the project to end before I can see what the rest of the wool applique looks like.
May I implore you not to jump on the bandwagon when someone supposedly has broken the rules? I had no idea until I wrote and asked why I wasn't part of the group anymore. Nobody had the courtesy to tell me they were kicking me out.
I've emailed the designer, Rebekah Smith, on August 6, and have given her to opportunity to make this right.
Aug 9, update: All is right with the world again. Thank you Rebekah for correcting the situation. It says so much about what type of person you are!
Alrighty, moving on to celebrate life and bigger things than nit picky people. I have a giveaway!

Here is the fall 2016 issue of Primitive Quilts. If you would like to win this please leave a comment with your current email address. I'll announce a winner on Friday.

Giveaway is Closed! Thank you all for entering.

I hope you won't hold the banishment against me!
Love to you all
Lori

Gwennie Inspired Medallion QAL Part 3

Here we are again! I get so excited to see all the lovely version. Whoop! Whoop! Please add the link to your blog post or send me a photo and I'll post it.

Last month Cathy's theme was log cabin- any variety or version, including the name of a log cabin setting, which was the direction I went.

I knew right away I wanted to make a Streak of Lightning "log cabin setting" for my border. What I didn't realize is that I was going to run out of fabric and time...
I knew I wanted to bring out the turquoise from the center basket. I still want to add the bold solid somewhere before the quilt is done. I tried the zig zag on the top and bottom, the top and each side, the bottom and each side and thought it just looked all unbalanced, so went with the two sides.
I put it together by making flying geese.

Here is Pierrette's medallion so far. She opted to make many fun versions and variations of the log cabin block to surround her center. Love the addition of the yellow.

Here is Karen Dever's fun medallion surrounded by liberated log cabins. Love that red corner fabric!!

Here is Sally M's quilt with the addition of log cabins. She is hoping to add a little something from a future round in the large corners. I think it's a great idea!

Here is Vicki B's medallion. The latest log cabin brings in all the color she has used so far. Wonderful!
This is Ursala's creative interpretation!!
I chose to turn it into one giant log cabin block. I used slashes to make it flat and square since I am really "free flowing" in my piecing...letting the piece just happen.

You ready for the next round? Katy says this:

"So the challenge for this next round, is to create a border with the star theme. You could make your entire medallion into a star center or add stars in your borders. Heck, you could use star fabric! We will be linking up the results of this round here on September 1st."

On your marks, get set, sew!
