Blogger Housekeeping Issues

Good Wednesday morning to you all! Thank you for all your kind and interesting comments about skydiving. My feet have hardly hit the ground this week at all! I'm even having a hard time sleeping.

I've got a few questions and hopefully someone can help or steer me in the right direction. I've merged the blogs I was following using Google Reader to Bloglovin'. I can't say I love it, but it is working. If you read blogs using Google Reader it will be going away in July.

Should I add the  "Follow me on BlogLovin" icon to make it easier for you to add Humble Quilts to your reader?
I'm under the impression you can still use the regular follower button, is that correct?

Lately I've been getting more and more of this when I click on a name to see your profile or reply back to you when you've left a comment.

Hope you don't mind Diann......There is no email address, no blog URL. I'm confused about Google Plus!
Is this coming up on me when I leave a comment? How can I add more info to my Google plus profile, including my email address?

I've done searches online and am getting more confused. I'd appreciate ANY assistance.

Very flattering, huh?!?!

  1. Lori, thanks for posting this. I, too, don't love Bloglovin and wonder if someone has found something better. I was able to easily send all the blogs I follow to Bloglovin. They came right over.

Will people who follow by email have to sign up again?

I'll be watching for comments here.

  2. I have never had that screen come up. I have gotten emails from Google about Google + but I haven't signed up for it. I emailed them back because the email I got made it seem like I had signed up for Google + when I had NOT. I have never had any luck moving my google reader blogs over to Bloglovin, so I am doing it one at a time. It is a pain, but I don't know any other way to get it to work. I don't mind Bloglovin other than that, and I did put the widget on my blog. I don't think Google's explanations are very good or there wouldn't be so much confusion about this issue. It's frustrating when you go to "Help" but it isn't helpful and there is no way to actually ask someone a question. I wonder if a lot of people have emailed them with comments and if they are getting the picture that we don't like what they are doing? Or, maybe they just think we are all stupid?

  3. Ok I am computer illiterate...I use google for all the blogs I follow.. how do I move them over to Bloglovin? Darn I wish I was smarter about these things.

  4. I'm of no help, I read blogs directly from my blog. Good grief, it wasn't broken! Why oh why do those techie people do this to us. Imagine when we're 75 trying to figure this stuff out! I tried to commented on your skydiving, but don't think it showed up. Looks like it was a blast!

  5. I don't have to imagine being 75 as I am almost 7 years beyond that. I've heard that Feedly is more friendly. I'd really like someone to help me, but my 60+ friend thinks I should be able to do it myself. Please walk in my shoe for awhile.

  6. I will be following this post closely. I read from my blog too. Hope that does not go away! I guess I should add that widget thingy too. Why do they have to change things just when I have it down!!

  7. I have been running into that too...hmmmm.

Hey, I am so proud of your skydiving bravery!! I did this when I was young...about 20 years old, tandem like you...terrifying but fun!!

  8. Feedly is my current preference. It looks and works a lot like google reader and transferring is simple. The feedly folks are working on being independent from google reader before it goes away. I plan on staying away from anything associated with google, such as google+, as who knows when google may decide to pull the plug, i.e. igoogle, google reader...

  9. I use feedly and love it. The feedly team is really working hard on upgrades too. Moving all the blogs you read is simple. I did not like either bloglovin' or The Old Reader.

  10. I switched over to bloglovin and added the icon to my sidebar. I hope it is helpful to my Followers. My Daughter uses Wordpress and had to ask for a new URL link. I don't get it all either, but was happy to send it to her. I like getting the nightly FEED in one e-mail.

  11. I switched and I also added the icon to my sidebar. So far so good.

  12. I now follow my favorite blogs through Bloglovin and it's been a very easy transition.

  13. I'm using Bloglovin' and follow you from there.

  14. I never used Google Reader, so its demise hasn't been too traumatic, but I had been asked if I would put a Bloglovin' button on to make it easier for those who are having to switch. I'm told Google Friend Connect is staying put (for now, right?). SewCalGal just had a post about all of the options available to replace Google Reader. You might want to check it out if you haven't already.

  15. I've heard about Feedly and Bloglovin but haven't made the move yet, still deciding!! So interesting reading all your comments, nice to see what people are experiencing with those two options. Will check out SewCalGal and see what she has to say - it's all a bit of a pain really, Google Reader suits me.......

  16. I have imported all the blogs I am following into Bloglovin and so now have two readers to use! I do still prefer Google reader so am using it while it is there! but no doubt we'll get used to the look of Bloglovin soon enough. It was easy to import them via the Bloglovin site as Sue says in her comment above. As far as I understand anyone who follows you using the google friend connect "join this site" button does NOT automatically follow you via Bloglovin . So I have added the other button on my blog as well. I am also planning on reminding followers to import their followings to another reader soonish...
It is all a jolly nuisance and I have to admit to enlisting my daughter's help to get all this sorted - not easy for the technically-challenged!

  17. Is it just the reading of others' blogs that's going or is Blogger going too???? Do I need to change my blog away from 'blogspot'??? I got the impression Blogger as a whole would no longer be.

  18. I came back to read all the comments to see if anyone had given you good insight. I never used Google Reader so I don't know what I might be missing by using Bloglovin'. I find with Bloglovin' that I need to click on the post title to take me to the post and be able to leave a comment. If I click on something else in it, I can't get the comment section. I added the Bloglovin' option on my blog sidebar to make it easy for people to add me to their reader in the future. The majority seem to be moving to Bloglovin'.

  19. Whoops, I should have written that I have to click on the Blog name and not the post title in order to leave a comment in Bloglovin'.

  20. Sorry Lori..I have to have the gmail because I can't be anonymous in any comments. Don't mind that but it's not my email. When I try to put it in from Hotmail (Kyquiltymama) at that then gmail zaps it. I'm a lost ball in high weeds who does not check gmail just my usual email that is NOT allowed mostly. I love your blog and follow it faithfully and WOW my friends who saw that little pic and my name in your comments on the blog and I said "NO WAY" and then went and looked and it was "WAY".So it's Hotmail.com for email addy and gmail for quilt blog comments and I'm lost.
