When my kids were little we made paper baskets and put flowers in them and left them on our neighbors door knob. They would ring the doorbell and run. It was supposed to be a secret who brought them. I'm pretty sure our elderly neighbors knew who they came from. What a fun tradition. I wonder if anyone does that anymore?
I thought I'd share a few basket quilts to get you in the mood for May!
Liberated baskets started in a class with Gwen Marston.
Basket of Blessings, designed by me, published by Primitive Quilts.
The two blocks above are from Beyond the Cherry Tree quilt.
I call this quilt Desert baskets. It was a free BOM by Wendy Whellum at Legends and Lace blog.
Sally Post block.
Wool Flowers by Jan Patek.
We made a quick trip to Portland this weekend to help my daughter with the last of moving. Yay! Hubby wanted to see the new digs too.
I'm hiking with my friend Mai today, since it is May Day!
Happy May Day...with a quilt show...lovely!
ReplyDeleteDesert Baskets is my favorite of these. Just the other day, I pulled out those patterns for the baskets. I had saved all of them but not done anything with them.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember ever doing anything special for May Day. Would be a wonderful tradition though to do something with baskets for friends and neighbors.
I love your basket quilts. My sister and I hung May baskets when we were little -- no one seems to do that any more. (sigh)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun thing to do. Have fun today
ReplyDeleteI have never met a basket quilt I did not love & yours are all delightful!
ReplyDeleteLori, what a delightful post!! I'm loving those wonky baskets.. love all your quilts :))
ReplyDeleteLori todos tus edredones cestas me encanta.
ReplyDeleteEsa tradición es tan deliciosa. en España no tenemos nada que se parezca
gracias por compartir
I love all your basket quilts. Happy May Day to you, too. When I was little, we celebrated similarly with baskets made of construction paper and paper doilies filled with popcorn and candies. We rang the bell and ran away also. Fun times.
ReplyDeleteI did May Baskets with my 3 grandchildren yesterday. They took them home and left on doors this morning. We had 4" of snow Sunday so it was funny to be leaving May Baskets on doors with snow on the ground! Love your basket quilts.
ReplyDeleteHappy May Day Lori! My mom and I did too when I was kid. What a wonderful memory :0)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story about your kids!! Great memory. And I love all your basket quilts!!
ReplyDeleteHow great that you have been able to help Rene with her move. Hope all is well with her !!
What a delightful post! I love the flowers and baskets! It has been such a long winter here in Spokane but I think we have turned the corner to some warmer weather! It is fun to see your pretty flowers in fabric. You are so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI love the May Day tradition, but alas have not done it since my kids moved out. Thanks for the wonderful basket quilt show!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun tradition. My kids used to deliver goodies and ring and run (but out here it has to be "hurry and jump in the car and Mom speeds away").
ReplyDeleteA nearby community hosts a May Day celebration, complete with Maypole dancing and May queen coronation, games, entertainment and food. DH always took the children when they were young. We don't go as often anymore, but still drop in every so often.
Loved seeing this collection of basket quilts. I have done a few myself, but mine are all pieced. And most of them would only warm your foot. : )
What wonderful baskets! I especially love the Cherry tree blocks :0) Happy May Day to you too!
ReplyDeleteLove them all. What a perfect post for May day.
ReplyDeleteAll beautiful quilts but I do love the first one, and have a few prim basket quilts on my to do list.
