Fun on a Friday

Hello friends!

Here is a little side project I have going. Sending these off to a friend today. 

I am fairly close to having the top completed to my 250th USA quilt!

I've been following social media on several visitors here in USA for the FIFA World Cup. It has been very refreshing! They are finding joy in the small things! Country music by Ella Langley, free soda refills, Bucees and college stadiums. 

 

I've been getting some hiking in as well as I have a big end of the summer goal.

Hiking South Sisters will be a training hike if I can score permits. 

Desert hikes closer to home will be on the agenda too!

Bounty of Baskets

 

My basket runner is complete! I really love it. I kept the quilting simple and I like that it compliments the baskets and there isn't so much quilting that is takes away from the applique design. I'll be teaching this class this summer in Dayton, Oregon. It should be fun!

FunDay MonDay

Good morning and happy August!

Hmm, wonder what is going on in my sewing room?

Baskets! Cheddar background and fun printed baskets. The handles will come soon. I thought I'd make these a bit smaller and I have a surprise setting for them. Because I am offering these for a class having a few different colors combos and settings is good to get quilters thinking outside the box. 

And I'm still adding quarter square triangles to my center panel for the challenge. 

Saturday Elsa and I went to a mountain lake to hike and beat the heat!

Over the weekend we had high winds, lots of dirt in the air and fires starting because of lightning and power lines. Locally the fires are out. Unfortunately some started in the deep forests where it is difficult to get them out.

Summer Baskets

I got a little chance to work on my basket project. The setting is what will make it unusual. I'm copying an antique quilt. I hope it works out like I imagine!

These were in with my blues. Does anybody know if this is Japanese writing?

And does it actually say anything?

And which direction would it go?

Any thoughts?

Happy May Day!

 When my kids were little we made paper baskets and put flowers in them and left them on our neighbors door knob. They would ring the doorbell and run. It was supposed to be a secret who brought them. I'm pretty sure our elderly neighbors knew who they came from. What a fun tradition. I wonder if anyone does that anymore? 

I thought I'd share a few basket quilts to get you in the mood for May!

 I call this quilt Desert baskets. It was a free BOM by Wendy Whellum at Legends and Lace blog.

We made a quick trip to Portland this weekend to help my daughter with the last of moving. Yay! Hubby wanted to see the new digs too. 

I'm hiking with my friend Mai today, since it is May Day!

Bounty of Liberated Baskets

So excited to have another quilt finished! 

 Here is my liberated basket quilt I'm calling Bounty of Baskets, started in a class with Gwen Marston in 2012! it measures approx 50x50.

 I wanted to keep the quilting really simple so I did vertical straight lines about 2" apart. I wish I would have done them a wee bit closer.

Instead of marking or using the Hera tool I wanted to try this bar that is packaged with my walking foot. Is this what it is supposed to be used for? I lined up the bar on the previous stitch line and watched that while I sewed. The quilting is a bit liberated too! LOL

I have two more little quilts closing in on being finished! I love starting the year out this way.

February

Wow! Here it is February already!! I have so many fun events planned for 2016 that it's hard to not rush!

We have hired a new employee and that is a good thing. I hope he learns fast and works well into our small business. 

 Here's a little stuffed pillow I made for a lovely girl who lost her dad after a valiant fight with a heart transplant. It was a free project at Wooden Spools Design- click HERE to see Debbie's blog post and get the pattern.

 I got some ideas from my Facebook group. (which now has 700+ members! I'm humbled for sure!)

 I'm not a fan of poly stuffing. This is what I used. 

 I'm working on lots of binding which makes for a boring blog post. Here is my completed High Desert Baskets, where my creative photo skills flopped!

 That's better. The binding is not the same print. Remember when I made the binding ahead of time? My quilts were at the quilters and I didn't look to see what the outer triangle prints were. Just one more step in my humble quilt philosophy. 

 One more binding. I love this binding with this quilt!! I'll show you the completed quilt later this week.

One more binding attached, still to be hand sewn.

World Piece

I got my little quilt from the World Piece fabric basted and ready to quilt. I plan on quilting this one by machine. If you are a regular reader of my blog you may get a chance to win it when it is completed! Keep your eyes open for further details.

A little over a week ago I had to go into Portland. Of course, this is one of my regular stops.

I saw this cute window display. 

So much of this line I didn't see when I was working with my "India" bundle. They are so darn adorable!

Simple Friday Post

Mary Elizabeth Kinch posted her liberated basket quilt  (from a Gwen Marston class) on Instagram and I mentioned I had one unfinished too. So she asked if I wanted to join her and her friend Susan to get it completed by the end of February. Mine is all basted and ready to quilt so I feel a little like I'm cheating.
