Quilt Labels

Here is my label ready to apply to my Lincoln Quilt. Diane did an awesome job quilting and I'm hoping to get binding made and on this weekend.  Some labels, I have basic info, this one will be used in my lecture, "Reruns: Quilts Inspired by the Past" so I thought I'd give a few more details.
The first time I saw a printed signature  that I fell in love with was by Lizzy on my 50th birthday signature quilt. I treasure all the blocks and the signatures, but thought I could do some labels in a different way than my simple handwriting.
Lizzy suggests spraying with an acrylic clear to keep the ink on the label through more washings.

After this weeks post about the "Healing Quilt" heading back to the family I thought it was a good time to remind you about the importance of adding labels to your quilts. Many of mine, have my name, date and city- that's it.

Here's my instagram post for this past week. Lots of snow, lots of dogs! We still have lots of snow, but I think it's done! I'm ready for spring! Maybe next week I'll find some spring when I head north- oh wait! The Seattle and Bellingham area had snow too! LOL

Have a wonderful weekend, my friends!

  1. Wonderful label and lots of info. Interesting suggestion to use clear acrylic spray on inked signatures. Love seeing your dogs in the snow!

  3. Dang, looks like you're off to visit our other family in addition to the ones in Redmond. They live on Lummi Island off the coast at Bellingham. They've been beat up on this winter too. I am so bad when it comes to labels. Somehow I just never get around to doing them, although I know it would be helpful. Congrats on the Lincoln quilt.

  4. I am so good at attaching labels, but often put off writing on them until I have a stack of quilts with blank labels. How crazy is that?
But my big job right now is getting labels on my Mom's quilts. While she still can, I have had her sign a bunch of labels, and now I need to write the info and get them attached to the proper quilts.

  5. Your label looks great! Note: try to use a matte spray on dry ink.

  8. good reminder. I'm always torn between writing in my own hand, or printing. I love the way it looks so I should give it a whirl.
