This and That Mid Week

I'll be ready to show the second completed block on Friday! If you have been working on yours I'd love to see it or add it to my post.
In case you are wondering it is the Anniversary Quilt by Jan Patek.

My new and generous friend Suzette sent me a box! She only lives an hour away, but neither of us have been traveling out of town. (I admit to heading to the mountains or woods, but not other towns with more people) Some oldies but goodies and the wonderful toile! It is a heavier weight that I think would make a great pillow, or.......???

The police are getting a bad rap these days. Lots of hatred. The police in my town are our neighbors and friends. A group brought goodies and lots of thanks to the local police department.

And to our local sheriff's office. We appreciate the protection they give us. (we checked with Oregon ethics and all was legit)

See you Friday!!

  2. It is always fun to share in someone else's stash. :)
I love that you supported your local law enforcement. I know that there is a bad apple now and then, and I have had a less than stellar encounter myself--though not life threatening--but most of our local officers are good people who truly want to help. It must be hard for them to be lumped in with the rotten apples and constantly feel berated lately.

  3. Common sense tells you when you buy a bag of apples and one turns out to be rotten, you don't throw away the 99% that are good. Same with people. The heart of the problem is that insanity rather than common sense seems to rule the day. Sad for our nation, especially for our impressionable children who must someday pick up the pieces.

  4. I recognize that little blue and white print on the top of the stack, "On to the next century" or something. What a nice surprise. What a lovely thing to do for the police - the people that do so much for us everyday.

  5. I think being in the police force in this day and age must be a thankless task. Yes , I believe they need better training in some areas but as in an earlier comment the bad apples are tainting the whole. When people criticise police I think to myself, imagine what the world would be like without them!!! Nice to see they are getting some positive feedback in your community. In Australia over the past couple of weeks there have been a few cases of police being assaulted! I hear myself thinking "what's the world coming to" just like older people used to say when I was much much younger, lol!

  7. I am SO proud and pleased to see your stand with your local police departments. My son-in-law is a WV State Trooper. I KNOW what kind of man he is----loyal, kind, patriotic---one who sees his vocation more as a ministry, a calling than a mere job. Even in our small-town area he is starting to hear verbal bashing and threats merely because he is a police officer. I don't know how officers are able to take this abuse. I look at what has come to a head in America over the last few years and am so grieved--but we should have seen it coming. This didn't start a few years ago---but many. Your block is beautiful-I'm a homespun kind of gal myself! Thank God for quilting and quilters!

  8. What lovely fabrics your friend sent you!

While everyone, including police, should obey the US Constitution (there shouldn't be civil asset forfeiture for example, that's un-Constitutional), the police should not be demonized nor should they be disbanded.
"Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as Christ has forgiven you." What a better place the world would be if more people obeyed this Bible passage, instead of being hateful.

  9. Thank you for opening supporting your law enforcement. I've worked for a large police department, and the men and women who are police officers do not deserve the abuse that is being thrown at them. It's heartbreaking and frightening that the mayors and city councils in many towns don't support their own police. I fear their will be a mass exodus of bright, well-qualified police officers...who needs that kind of abuse?
    Thanks again, and stay healthy.
