Two color Quilts- The Sapphire Exhibit

I received my blue and white quilts back from Houston QuiltFest. I'm sharing them with you today!

And if you prefer the link you can click HERE

Now a few photos from our week away.
I'll let the photos speak for themselves. To get to the lake was a tough 9miles, but we stayed 4 nights and hiked around. It was nice not to pick up every night and move.

Then we stayed 3 nights in a cute primitive cabin.

When you see signs like this, you take is seriously and take precautions. When backpacking in bear country we hang our food in a tree away from our camp. No bears were seen on this trip.

It was very relaxing and a memorable way to celebrate 39 years of marriage.

Let me know if you've made a 2 color quilt!

  1. You had me at Blue and White! So fun to see your friendship quilts we made together. Fun memories for sure!

  2. loved those quilts. Thanks for sharing them! I have made several blue/ white and a couple red/ white quilts. I have only made one (!) with a consistent fabric background and absolutely none of those quilts were done with one red/ blue fabric. I wish I had friends tgat were willing to travel to these shows. Lucky you!

Ps I have all my 4 patches ready for next week.

  3. I loved seeing your blue and white quilts! I think blue and white is one of the most elegant color combinations, reminding me of rich Chinese porcelains and beautiful Delft tiles! Not boring at all in my opinion. And the fact that you make many of yours together, in fellowship with other quilter friends imbues them with a deeper meaning. Thank you for sharing them with us!

  4. Blue and white is my favorite 2 color combo. They are more soothing to me than the popular red/white quilts. I enjoyed seeing your quilts again. Whenever they have been on your blog I have been tempted, but I would probably get antsy and throw in another few colors before they were finished.
I have never made a full bed-sized 2 color quilt, because I actually do get bored making 2 color mini quilts. LOL
    Beautiful scenery where you hiked.

  6. Beautiful quilts! I have made two colour quilts (blues and neutrals) and never tire of making them. In fact, there are a few ufo's that need to be finished and then I can have a lovely display.

  7. Loved the quilts you showed. During your Stringalong event last year I pieced a Spiderweb quilt using blues and white. Awaiting hand quilting as soon as Joseph's Coat I (another Stringalong) is out of the hoop.

  8. I made Bonnie’s Blue Ridge Beauty in scrappy blues and neutrals. I enjoy working with A huge variety of scraps. I always include old clothes and old favorite fabrics. I would go out of my mind just using one blue and one white fabric. Or even just 3 or 4 fabrics. I grew up with scrappy quilts and have always been intrigued by them. I admire the two fabric quilts, but would not enjoy making one at all.

  9. Really good viseo! [your hair looks amazing]. Beautiful two color quilts, worththe tedium and effort.

Your portrait with Elsa is beautiful.

Do you have to grocery shop and cook when you rent a cabin like that?

  10. I have a red adn white quilt in progress, needs decisions on border. It has MANY different red prints of 1800 reproductions + bleached muslin, and the blocks are 3" finished 9-patches with alternate blocks of muslin. There is an indigo and white shirtings quilt in progress with another large variety of prints, 7" finished blocks each little square is also from a 1 1/2" strip of fabric like the 9-patch... like a single Irish chain. I find that these pieced blocks are in need of being trimmed down. Also made a 2 fabric quilt in a Double Irish chain medium blue and white prints from wider strips of fabric for Sis in law. Waiting to hear when she gets it quilted.

  11. Blue is my favorite color and I try to use it in almost every quilt I make. I also like to make multi-blue and "white" (usually off-white, cream, very light tan) quilts like the second quilt you showed. (I forget the name but it had the name of a county in the title.) Two tops that I've made are Storm at Sea, and Calm Blue Ocean (design by silly goose quilts blog). Two quilts that have been gifted to QOV are Bursting Star (design by Angela Walters) and Traffic Jam (design by Pat Sloan). I *almost* changed my "50 Shades of Brown" (your latest QAL) to "50 Shades of Blue", but I didn't. VBG

  12. Gorgeous pictures!! When DH and I were camping we saw many signs warning of bears, but we never saw any. There were times when other people in the same camp saw them, but we missed out! I have made 2 2 color quilts and they were exactly the same. I will try to post them on facebook. They are replicas of the quilt made to commemorate Charles Lindbergh's flight over the Atlantic Ocean in 1927. I have 2 sons who are pilots, so I made 2 of them. They each have 10 eagles embroidered on them and 10 pieced airplanes. I finished them 7 years ago and don't think I got bored, but I'm sure I was glad when they were both finished.

  14. Love your video's and quilts. I have made one red and white quilt, but with different red fabrics. I want to make a blue and white quilt.

  15. I have not, as yet, made a two color quilt but I love looking at them, especially the blue and whites. Your quilts with the swapped fabrics are so special. I wish that I had someone to swap with. I have been cutting blue and white fabric prints for a Bonnie Hunter pattern called Carolina Chain. I am anxious to get started but am trying to finish up a few tops first.

  16. Loved seeing your blue and white quilts. I love blue and white - and they age so beautifully!!! I have made several blue and white quilts but have usually snuck in some other colors for a little spice. I think it would be tedious to make a truly only blue and white solids quilt.... but the results would be classic and amazing.

  17. Like everyone else, loved your two color quilts. The first quilt my grandmother helped me make was a blue and white applique and it is on my bed right now, Every time I walk by the room it makes me so happy to see. I am currently trying to make a dresser scarf in a scaled down version of the same, don’t ask me why, LOL. But enjoying the process and sure brings back memories. Wondering what the block was in that one you said related to Syracuse NY. All were lovely!

  18. I love the Bear sign. This is so true, we found out that a a mother and cubs were living too close to our campsite. The ranger made us move out, even tho the food was kept in the car. He walked around with a rifle so we packed up the kids, and left quickly. This was in the Smoky Mountains 35yr ago.
