Here are a few more favorites from teh New England Quilt Museum Southern Quilts exhibit.
I think this was my overall favorite. I love how the quilting goes directly over the applique! YAY!
Yes please!
Love the 2 size borders!
And a few closeups of some beautiful blocks!
WOWEE all the way around!
Thank you to all of you who have order the Bannard Hills fabric! I love fondling....uh, I mean cutting each piece! Sent with love!
Thank you for sharing these quilts. I admire the appliqué quilts but I am more of a scrappy quilter so the two that really caught my eye were the one with the two sizes of half square triangles in the borders and the quilt made up of blocks of half square triangle with cheddar sashing. Good inspiration! As a side note….can’t help but wonder how they knew these were Southern quilts if the maker is unknown. I suppose they factor in where the quilt was found and recognition of the fabrics used? We used to have so many textile mills in the south. How I wish that was still the case! My great aunts would get the mill ends of fabrics to use in making clothes, the remnants of which ended up in the quilts they made (and we inherited).
ReplyDeleteA beautiful group of antique quilts! Thank you for sharing these lovelies! Oh, I want a bunch of THAT blue that probably used to be green?
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Wonderful! I really like what looks like little Baptist fans on the Lila May (Carrol) Palmer quilt.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Every.Single.Block!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love these quilts!
ReplyDeleteI am in awe of the applique, but my heart sings with the Cheddar Half Squares, and the Chimneys and Cornerstones quilts. Love the quirky details of these vintage quilts.
ReplyDeleteLove them all…..so charming! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAll are beautiful & charming! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThese are so incredibly lovely! How did you stay upright long enough to thoroughly peruse them? I'd have melted into a puddle. Thanks so much for sharing!:)
ReplyDeleteSuch great antique quilts!! Love the applique and the circular star with the cheater fabric!!
ReplyDeleteI made a quilt that hangs in my bedroom. It has many 1" half square triangles. It took a long time to make that quilt. The patience that was in the making of the cheddar sashed quilt... I love it. All of these quilts wonderful to look at.
ReplyDeleteThe New England Quilt Museum had a great showing. Lucky you to see them in person. Thank you for posting them.
