Life is Precious

I think we all know life is precious but when referring to my daughter I feel it even more. You may not know but my daughter was in a serious high speed car accident this past summer. She is recovering but it is a slow process.  We had to drive into Portland on an unrelated matter and met our kids for lunch. Rene made that gorgeous bluebird embroidery!!

The note is personal and touching for me but I wanted to share it with you,

So, on that note, I found that amazing lovely blue print above but am not quite sure of a plan. If you have any ideas I'd love to hear them. If you've made a small quilt with embroidery I'd love to see it.

My email is humblequilts@gmail.com

Thanks for going on the journey of life with me!

  1. That is a beautiful embroidery, she did a great job! Love the pretty blue fabric, too. I don't have an idea for a quilt, but you should definitely print her note on fabric and include it somewhere! Hope her recovery continues to go well.

  3. Extra sweet that she made it and gave it to you. Great tribute to you, mom! It's what I call a payday as a mother. When they realize we taught them something good.

This is priceless, Lori. My first thought was to make the embroidered piece the center of a quilt and that fabric you found was perfect for this purpose. BUT, the more I look at it and the note Rene wrote…..I would frame the embroidery and the note and hang them side by side. Maybe use the fabric you found as a mat around the note…..Just my two cents. What a treasure.❤️

  7. Rene, you are awesome! Just amazing what you have accomplished with this little blue bird. Bravo! and may your recovery continues and surprises you every day. There's a girl at the office who suffered a stroke at 38. Yes, 38. She was away for a whole year but managed to learn how to walk with a "dead weight leg" (her words) and write with her left hand. She is back at work, one of the sharpest tool in the shed still. Only when she gets up and walk do one notices that she has difficulties. So, don't give up. Life has dealt you a hard hand to play, but there's an ace in your heart. xox.
Lori, I would do a memento frame. I wouldn't even not change the embroidery, add the letter, of course, and the car keys (or any keys). Anywho! That's my twopence. I'm sure you will come up with something wonderful. It is just a great keepsake. Blessings to both of you. ;^)

  13. The embroidery is very beautiful and beautifully crafted, if that even matters. The note brought tears to my eyes, what a beautiful woman Rene has grown up to be and the strength she has shown with her recovery is so wonderful and impressive. Much love to her on her journey to heath. And to you.

  14. Your daughter is a very precious person. Depending how large or small the embroidery measures, I would frame it if possible.....and of course attaching the letter to the back of the framed piece.

  15. What a lovely and special embroidery! Of course you want to make something with it. You will make something wonderful that will remind you of the beautiful gift of your daughter's safety in the Father's hand :0) So glad she is continuing to recover. I love what she writes about the importance of creating without perfection and the healing that can come from creativity.

  16. Wow, such a heartfelt note and tribute to you and your relationship with your daughter. I would mat and frame the embroidery and note together as others have mentioned and hang it in a place of prominence in your home, you and she have so much to be proud of! ❤️

  18. That is such a sweet little note and the embroidery is beautiful too. As someone else said, it would look beautiful as it is mounted inside a shadowbox with note included. If too much decoration or design surrounds it, it might get overshadowed in a sense. The fabric you chose is beautiful though and matches perfectly and if you definitely want to create something with it as the focus, why not make a mini quilt? Her embroidery could be the center of a medallion quilt and the fabric's thin floral strips could frame it. And if you wanted it a little bigger, you could add another border in addition to the "framed" one with some of the words either printed on the fabric or embroidered. Your daughter sounds like she is just "perfect"!

  19. That is so beautiful. Thanks to both of you for sharing a little bit of your life's struggles. She may wind up being a motivational speaker as she learns to overcome her obstacles. I am sure you will find the perfect place for her embroidery, the fabric, and the note.

  20. I have been adding more embroidery to my quilts lately. I also have begun to stitching quotes or verses. I think it would be lovely to so some stitching around the bird - “Life is precious” perhaps? Framing it or making the bird as the center of a more traditional block would be nice too. Such a lovely memory and evidence of great love between mother and daughter.

  21. Lori, making that beautiful embroidery into a small remembrance pillow with a little pocket on the back to tuck the note into is my idea. A dear family friend made small pillows for my mom, my sister and me using my dad’s and my brother’s handkerchiefs (and fabric), they passed away in 2012 and 2016 and they are still missed every day. Our pillows are a special reminder of what gentle men they were.
My heart goes out to your daughter…..her recovery is remarkable.
    Deborah.
