Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show

I always like to go to the Stitchin' Post in Sisters Oregon the week before the big Outdoor Quilt Show. It is the 50th year! More info HERE. The date for the show is July 12.

Here are a few photos from around the shop.

The extent of their reproductions is Laundry Basket Quilts and Max and Louise.

Lots of yarn and patterns for knitting.

Prices at the Stichin' Post were pretty outrageous. They have always been the highest in any store I've been in. I'd love to know what your "regular" priced fabric is at your local quilt shop. (it seems more and more of them are closing though. So sad)

This was a cute little roll of 6 fabrics, but the tag didn't say what size the pieces are. I asked and it was 6 Fat Quarters!

Sew Kind of Wonderful had a lovely display and I'm sure they will be teaching next week. They had masses of fabric, patterns and rulers! This is the first time I've heard of them.
Classes start on Monday and go through Friday with the outdoor show on Saturday.

Will you be attending the show? I'll be there!

  1. We don’t have many quilt stores around here anymore 🙃. I think $14-$15 per yard is pretty typical and fat quarters are around $4. Good incentive to keep using my stash.

  2. Here in eastern Iowa, it's getting harder to find shop-cut FQs, except for kits. If you want FQs, bundles from manufacturers are the only option. For shops that still cut FQs *and* tag them individually, most have still been $3.50 to $3.75 with newer fabrics being higher priced. Some older fabrics cut a while ago can be found in the $2.50 to $3 range. The $4 price is starting to show up for newer individually tagged FQs or when there's only a price sign above the bins. I suspect $4.25 will not be far behind.

No, I will not get to Sisters. It's highly unlikely I ever will, due to distance and to be honest - even local quilt shows I go on Fridays to avoid the worst of the crowds on Saturdays.

We've lost a couple of shops due to owners' retirement. OTOH, within the last 1-2 years, one new shop opened in an area away from existing shops, and a shop that is primarily a sewing center (can rent to hold sew-ins, retreats, or simply get away from home interruptions) that also has fabrics opened. One large quilt shop that was nearly all quilting has added needlework and wool work patterns and supplies.

  4. I looked at my LQS website to get prices; I'm not sure what an individual FQ goes for but here are the prices for some popular designers: Allison Glass: $11.50-$12.95/yard; FQs 7/$25.
    Kaffe: $11.90-$14.95/yard; FQs 6/$23.
    Kona Solids: $8.75/yard.
    Riley Blake: $11.50-$13.50/yard; FQs 5/$18.75.

  6. I've gotten to go to Sisters twice with friends, and we had a great time. It was difficult to get around with the wheelchair my friend was in because of the crowds, but we managed. What fun it was to see so many different quilts! Maybe I can talk my husband into going with me next year.
I'm sad to see how high the prices are for quality - or even poor quality- quilting fabrics. I don't like buying online, since I can't really evaluate color or feel the fabric. There seems to be only one quilt shop very close to me, and the prices run around $12-14/yard. I'm so glad I have a large stash and don't have to buy much.

  7. Fun to shop in person, even ''just looking''. I can only shop online, where fabrics run 13-14.oo a yard plus tax and shipping. Precut bundles cost a fortune, way out of my budget. I remember when wholesale cotton price was 1.99/ yd or less if one's stock buyer was a good haggler.

  8. Never been to the Sister's show. Used to think I would go, but I'm not so sure anymore. We stop at Stitchin' Post sometimes on our way through town to visit our daughter, but they don't carry my preferred fabrics, so I usually just buy thread, or some small thing that catches my eye.
Sew Kind of Wonderful used to be a blog by Jenny Pedigo (of Quick Curve Ruler fame). Is it her fabric line, maybe?

  9. Hi Lori, I was in the quilt shop in Blairsville, Georgia a few days back. Their new fabric was $14.99 a yard. I was looking for 2 prints to make baby quilts and I found 2 coordinating prints to do one baby quilt. You know how hard it is to find the right thing for a boy. But $14.99 was a bit much so I settled on one yard at $12.99. I think that's the first time I've walked out of that shop spending less than $50.00.

Thank you for sharing photos of the quilt shop. I really miss the old days when I taught in several shops and visited many others, gathering inspiration along the way.
