Monday Musings, Incredible Coast

We had a little getaway to the Oregon coast this past weekend,

Every time I saw this sign I chuckled inside. I am a "sewer" but I didn't take a sewing test! LOL

Tillamook is known for their County quilt block trail. I snapped a few photos of the ones I could easily (lol, or not so easily!)  photograph

And the weather was warmer than it had been all week! Not quite sure what Zack is doing- having fun for sure!

Garibaldi Marina
Love the blue boats and blue sky!

We cannot grow hydrangeas in Central Oregon but they are so beautiful! I always stop and get a closer look.

These were in bloom all over! Stunning! I have no clue what kind of flower they are.

Beautiful "Three Arch Rocks" on the beach near where we stayed.

2 nights and 2 beautiful sunsets!

Lets have a great week!

Yee-Haw!

Happy Friday friends! We had an excellent trip to Wyoming! Weather was good, people were friendly, skies and mountains were big!

I made it to ONE quilt shop in Cody.  I had to get a small piece that represents WY. The bucking cowboy is on the license plates and a UW mascot.

And I saw this and HAD to get it! It looks geometric...

But when you get a closer look it is spark plugs! LOL We have an auto parts store and sell a lot of these. I've never seen a fabric like this before.
It was jammed packed with goodies and rooms that wove in and out.

It was called Friends and Co quilt shop. I highly recommend stopping if you are ever in the area.

Cruising 80MPH down the lovely highway and hubby made a point of turning around so I could snap this photo! We saw a lot all through our route but only stopped for this beauty. Loved the flag as well.

I have way too many scenic photos so I'll just share 2. Our first night sunset in Wyoming.

And the Tetons on our way back the airport on our last day.

Behave yourself now! LOL

Have a great weekend!

Epic Summer Adventure

I mentioned last week I was off for an adventure and it was EPIC!

First off, going out with girlfriends is fun.

Here we are all fresh, clean and ready to go!

7.3 miles later and this was the view from my tent at Mirror Lake, elevation 7,595'

This photo says Mirror Lake is a good name for it.

 Always enjoy sunsets.
We hiked a 5 miles alpine lake loop on Thursday.
And took a dip to freshen up! LOL

Our view again from my tent. I just couldn't get enough!
There were many water crossings....

And waterfalls.
The drive to the trailhead was beautiful too.

And to keep this quilt related....
Also seen on the way to the trailhead.

When I arrived home my winnings from Cecile's star quiltalong were here! I received  these lovely colors of Auriful thread. Thank you Cecile.

It's going to be Hot, Hot Hot this week! Hopefully I'll get a chance to Sew, Sew, Sew!

Let's have a great week!

Barn Quilt Block & Relay Update

After the Relay Michelle came over and we started on our barn quilt blocks. (I had boards primed and ready) She had been working the relay and I'd be walking it so we were both pretty exhausted but the timing worked out for us to get started on them.

I used my Electric Quilt to manipulate colors and make block changes. Michelle was impressed with my rudimentary skills! LOL

Then we penciled out our designs on the boards. We ran into a bit of a learning curve, so we will pick it back up and finish them at a later date...
I plan on hanging mine on our shed.

My walking relay update:
Early morning sunrise to the start line.

I had met the person on my right July 4th at a race in my town and only met the other team members the previous night. No matter our economic, religious or political background the race brings people together. I LOVE that! There is a camaraderie that is missing so much in society today, although quilting is another thing that brings people together!

 Wide open Oregon spaces!

Our first walker coming into our first exchange. More wide open spaces!! LOL
This is where I met the previous walker and took off for my 7.1 miler in the afternoon heat. Thankfully the weather this year stayed below 90 and no smokey skies from forest fires!! I did have an awful soft dirt road for at least 6 miles. No wonder this leg is considered hard!!

When our van was done and we passed off the van 2 we cleaned up and rested until midnight. Then we took off to our next set of legs.

The skies were beautiful as daybreak appeared.
This was where I took off for my next 2 legs. One walker was sick so I offered to do her leg which was an easy 2.1 flat warm up to the next leg that was 4.2 pretty much uphill. It was hard but so much better on asphalt. I feel like I gave 100% effort on all my legs. I admit, I'd rather be running.....
Here is a view of Mt Bachelor on the relay route.

Yes! We finished and we did well! It was time for us to relax and let Van 2 take it to the finish line.
We got a lead overnight and kept it to the end.

Our team came in first in our division- Woman's Masters and 2nd against all the other walking teams.
I haven't decided if this is something I want to do again or not, but this was memorable and I'm glad I did it.

Back to the Monday! Make it a fantastic week!!

You Could Make a Barn Quilt!!

This is my last post of Ohio! Promise!!

Here are more great barn quilts! This is the carpenter block on a Nazarene church property.
A few of them opted to put theirs on a sign post. I think it looks great!

The gallery of Ashtabula County barn quilts is HERE. You can get ideas of colors or blocks that you'd like.If you wanted to make one for your property.

Directions for what kind of paint and how to do it can be found HERE.  Click on standards. It is 4 pages long, don't let that scare you- it is a lot of details, but not as hard as you would think.

My sister made this for her house in Idaho after seeing the barn quilts and using the directions I listed the link for! It looks really cute!

Have a fantastic week!
