Laundry Basket Quilt Book

I made a comment at Quiltmaker's blog and happen to be the winner of this book by Laundry Basket quilts.

The applique in the book is wonderful and Edyta's tips are great, but this Lemoyne star quilt really caught my eye. (I love that jug too) If I didn't dislike set-in seams so bad I might actually make this.

Make sure to read the first post I put on my blog today. Two in one day!

Road tripping

Friday I had a hair appointment with my daughter in Portland so I thought I'd do a little side trip while I was in town. I went to Battle Ground, WA hoping to go to Primitive Thimble Quilt Shop. The brick church they were supposed to be in was empty and there was a "for rent" sign out front. If they moved I didn't see any signs.

Since I was jut a few miles from Country Manor I thought I'd buzz over and see what I could find. Oh my goodness! That place had more fabric piled up then I remember from my last trip!!

I did hit Fabric Depot in Portland too and found a few goodies. Carolyn (who accidentally has called me Anita on her blog- you can call me anything you'd like as long as it's not a swear word) suggested I use a Hera Marker to score lines and really I had looked for one in the past but forgotten all about it. I was so excited because it really does work!

Here are some awesome fabs I picked up at Fabric Depot. I split them all in half and the other half are winging their way to my unsuspecting friend.

The 2 lines to the right of the ruler were scored with the Hera marker. Woo- Hoo!

Irish Chain Quilt DONE!

For some people 2 weeks and 2 days from start to finish on a quilt may seem like a long time. For me it was FAST! I put the final stitches in the binding Monday night!! Woo-Hoo!
When I told my daughter I was working feverishly on a quilt for the wedding she asked if she'd be driving while I finished it! I'll tell her she's off the hook now.

I was so happy to get the crosshatching done I had to snap a photo.

I'm not a fancy label maker (obviously) but I generally make one before I attach the binding. I fold the right and upper sides under a 1/4" and line up the other two sides with the raw edge of the quilt. When I add the binding I just have the two sides of the label to stitch under. The label isn't quite as easy to remove either.

"Anonymous, no-replycomment blogger" left a message when I accidently sewed the binding on the front of the quilts. She or he wrote "You have a chance for a completely machine-sewed binding. Use invisible thread and a zig-zag stitch."
I've tried this once or twice and have not had good results at all. My friend, Randy, from the Sunriver sewathon does hers this way and it looks great. Mine doesn't.

What's on my Wall and my Floor

This is what's on my design wall this morning. It seems to spanning a large time period doesn't it? The two blocks on the upper left is a group project for a friend who needs some cheer. I don't have a scrap of batiks but I was able to purchase a little packet of FQer's last Friday. I think the colors are a bit muddy and it needs more contrast, but if they are with a group of others I think they will be fine. The blocks are the same pattern just different placement of colors.
Three completed Grandmother's blocks (which you may have seen already) and one lone block I used as a leader/ender on the sister's choice blocks.
You will be seeing Washington again! As soon as I saw that I knew I had to own a piece. Thanks to Pat at Lifes A Stitch. I've got some plans for Mr. Washington, but they are mulling at the moment.

This is what's on my floor. I've been tagged a few times and haven't wanted to just to put a lot of "stuff" out there. Now that I've gotten to know a few of you better I do feel like I want to share a little more of me. This is our 3 year old pound dog. We got him when he was about 8 months old. He's been my walking a and jogging partner for quite a while until last winter. Somehow he got hurt and tore up his rear knees. We only found out for sure last week what the problem was. We really struggled with what to. The bottom line is he is going to have surgery in the morning and the vet's wife has graciously asked us to let her do all his rehab for free. He will belong to her for 6-8 weeks while he needs a lot of care. He used to come and hang out with me in my sewing room all the time but he hasn't been up to climbing the stairs. But he showed up yesterday!!! It was nice hanging out with him while I was sewing.
He's a great fisherman too!!
PS Am hand sewing the binding down on the Irish chain!
