Cascadia Quiltalong Mystery Part 2

Hello! I'm thrilled to see many jumping in and not letting the mystery part to this stop them!

Take 2 of your strips and sew them together.
Then you should have this.

Take your baggy of 1 1/2" squares strip of 5 patches- do that 20 times! (sewn, unlike mine in the photo)

Then I want you to make 4 strips of 3 patches.

You should be able to knock them out quickly.

(I'm posting this on Tuesday for automatic posting) If I can get another  post ready to go I'll do Cascadia step 3 to go on Monday. If not, it will wait until Wednesday when I am home.

Have fun! Love to you all!

Cascadia Finale and Reveal

If you are one of the three who have been following along with the Cascadia mystery , here it is!
Mine isn't all quilted but I did the binding prior to bringing it to Guatemala with me.
Here is the inspiration quilt. Isn't it adorable? I saw it on ebay and thought it would be a fun one to reproduce.
If you haven't already,  trim the sides of your rows, leaving 1/4" seam allowance. (don't burn it like I did!)
It doesn't really matter how wide it is, but mine finishes at 4 1/2". Your two rows may not finish exactly the same- that's okay!

One of my rows was a perfect fit but the one in the photo was not. I think it is because I sewed my edge triangles on wrong. No problem, I added a little strip to both ends. and sewed my rows together as shown in the top photo.
Here is one end with the addition of a muslin strip to make my row long enough.

I really don't think you would have noticed had I not told you.
I hope you love your little quilt as much as I love mine. I think it is so charming!

You can see in the 2 photos above I'm stitching straight down the rows that are set on the diagonal and plan on quilting on the diagonal on the straight rows.

I will do a linky party at a later date, since the holidays are here!

Cascadia Quiltalong Part 3- EDITED

Hey, I'm back and ready to give you the next step in the Cascadia mystery. I had a very rewarding trip and will be sharing photos soon.
EDITED to reflect no bias edges on the outside. (I knew I should have waited one more day to post!) If you already did it the first way, it's fine- don't change it! Ask me how I know it will work out. :)

So, here we go!

From muslin, white, light, or whatever other color you want to use, cut thirteen (13) 2 3/4" squares, then cut them on the diagonal twice to make 52 total triangles. Sew them, as shown,  to a single printed 1 1/2" square.  Make 4 of these units.

Then cut four (4)  muslin, white or light 1 3/4"" squares, then cut on the diagonal  to make 8 triangles. (this will keep the bias edge off the outside) sew to the corner, as shown.  Make 4 of these units.

To the three square strips add the triangles from the 2 3/4 square to the ends, as shown. Make 4 like that.
Press, as shown and sew these two rows together.

Use one of your 1 3/4" corner triangles add to the end of a 5 square strip. (this will be your other corner) Add it to the end of 4 strips.

Add your quarter square triangles to the ends as shown above.

Using the rest of the triangles made from the 2 3/4" squares add them as shown to the ends of the 5 square strips.  Sew them together as shown. Make 2 of these strips.

It's been a long week with very little sleep, I sure hope this makes sense! Let me know if it doesn't.

Have fun with it!

Humble Quilts Quiltalongs Revisited

Many of you know I do a little quilt sewalong once a year, usually in the fall. My next one only needs to be basted and hand quilted. And after a hike this weekend I think I've come up with a name.
The directions are still up for each of these little quilts. Feel free to make one or all! I'd love to see them when they are finished. (link will be at the end)

Cascadia Quiltalong Mystery Part 1

Ah ha! Did you notice the added word in the title? This quiltalong will be a little mystery. There isn't a huge investment, the size is approximately 17" x19". If you aren't familiar with my little doll size quiltalongs you can look HERE. This will be number 10! I hope you are familiar enough to trust me, if not that's okay, you can always make it after the reveal.

A few weeks ago I mentioned getting into your 1 1/2" squares. This is what I'd like you to make using those squares.
Make 4 of these (not 2 as shown)
But I really want you to make 4 of these strips. I had a few half square triangles in my 1 1/2" bag, so I used them. Most of my prints are reproductions and I've repeated fabric so mine will not be a charm quilt. Feel free to do as you like. This would also be really cute in 30's prints or modern!

I make a lot of pairs, then pair them up and keep doing that until you have your strips. Strips will be 18 squares long.

Next Wednesday will be part 2. Is that enough time?

Last call to enter in my book giveaway. I've started to read it and I think it's going to be great! Enter HERE and I'll draw on Sunday. I'm taking it to Guatemala with me but I think it will be a quick read and I'll send it off as soon as I'm finished with it.

Happy weekend!

Baskets Galore and Cascadia Mystery Winner

The new year brings back fresh enthusiasm for quilts I've set aside. The baskets galore from
Legend and Lace is one of them.  Wendy opted to set hers with sashing. You can see it HERE. It is beautiful!

I played around with that strategy an decided not to do it that way. Having shirtings against shirtings it a little unusual and I think that is why I like it. It is unpredictable! I can see it quilted with an all over fan pattern. (maybe!)
Before I could get them ready I needed to applique these three final blocks.  DONE!
I have the blocks all packaged up with my diagram to take on my quilt retreat later this month. I may add an additional border, but I've got everything ready to sew up to this point. Yay! That feels good.

I always do a drawing for those who sewalong with my small quilts and totally spaced it out when we had the Linky party. I try and make the prize reflect something or some color of the quiltalong. There were 34 people who linked up their tops. Thank you so much! I couldn't be more thrilled! See them HERE!
I've drawn a name and hopefully the winner will like a bag of my 1 1/2" squares. (with a few short strips thrown in)

The winner is number 14- Barbara of Quilts, Gravestones, and Elusive Ancestors.  Please send me your mailing address Barbara and I'll get the package in the mail. Congratulations!

PS, Jodybird, you mentioned you'd like to help my adopted family in Guatemala, but you are "No-reply" so I cannot contact you, Please send me an email if you'd still like to help. Thanks!

Running With Scissors

I had the privilege on Tuesday to teach a workshop to some wonderful ladies from the Bellingham area. The guild is called Running With Scissors.

This is the quilt, called Blue Ridge Rendezvous..
They all put in many miles behind their machines. And they were a very joyful bunch too!
Some got further than others but I think we all had fun and hopefully learned a little something.
Jane (I hope that is right) brought 3 of her quiltalongs that she has done from Humble Quilts. I love seeing them!
Laura came to the lecture and brought along her Cascadia. It was almost done! I found out that she was one who shared how she decorates her home with quilts. You can do a search on my blog and easily find that post!

After whipping them into quilt shape at the workshop, we all went for Mexican food. Yum! Thank you for dinner!!

Word spread about a birthday and soon I had on a sombrero, fried ice cream dessert and a bewildered look on my face! (I have to admit, the singing by the waiters wasn't too great!!)
Thank you Running With Scissors for making this day so enjoyable. Thank you Sharon (grassroots quilting) for asking me, and thanks Laurie and Linda for driving so far and being supportive!!
I'd be happy to teach somewhere else if anyone wants me!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Busy Thimble

If I was going to have a quilt shop, I'd want it to look just like this!
It was a little rainy heading from Portland to Litchfield for our appointment to shop at Cyndi's quilt shop.

The link to Cyndi's blog- HERE.

Filled with lots of quilts and almost exclusively reproduction fabric!

Cyndy's potholder quilt! Amazing reproduction.

Oh yes!

Here is Cascadia, one of my quiltalongs.

So simple but effective and so sweet!

Wendy, of The Constant Quilt blog, came to visit as well! I was as thrilled as I could be being able to meet her in person. We've known each other online for several years now. We just grabbed a couple of cute quilts to hold- we had lots of choices!

We shopped for about 2 hours and it was finally time to say goodbye and give Cyndi a hug!
She is retiring at some point. I'll try and use up some of that fabric I bought and maybe I'll be able to make a return trip while she is still open! XOXO

We made sure to leave Portland in plenty of time to NOT be late. This  old cemetery was nearby Cyndi's and we were a bit early so we wandered around a bit and and wondered  who these people were and why it seemed to be a forgotten cemetery.

Incredible- Born 1776 and lived 91 years! Oh the stories John Ranks could likely tell! According to Ancestry.com he was born in Yorkshire, England.
Here he is! Ancestry also says he had 20 children!  Holy Smokes!

I loved the urn and tree decor on this one.

If anyone is near McMinnville Oregon on Monday I am presenting a trunk show and doing a string quilt workshop! Send me an email if you'd like more details. HumbleQuilts@gmail.com

We woke up to this pretty scene yesterday morning.

The sun was shining and it melted pretty fast. Look at the lovely blue sky!

Have an amazing weekend!
