Missouri or Bust

I made a quick trip to Missouri recently.
Kansas City was a breeze to fly into and out of and Hertz was amazing! (no need to stand in line! Go directly to your car)

Backroads are always fun to drive on!

I stopped at a large antique mall and below are a few quilts I saw.

Can't go wrong with a nine patch!

This was beautiful! The block was fairly small.

The quilting was exceptional.

Jessica is moving and was having a living quilt estate sale! Laurie and I went to her house last year and did a bit of shopping. Check that post HERE. So I knew what I was getting into!

Martha Sparks came to help Jessica. I met her and worked with her a bit on the Oregon Quilt Documentation project in 2010. See that post HERE. It was wonderful to reconnect with her! All three of us have a love for quilt history, historical fabrics and quilts.
The night before the sale we met for a leisure meal. Great company. You know how some people you feel so comfortable with? That is Jessica and Martha!

Let's get this party started. These two worked hard! I shopped hard!

It was a whirlwind trip but so fun!

Fun on a Friday

These are cool random photos.

We saw this in the Capital building. I know about Chief Washakie and the town named after him in Wyoming is about 20 miles from the town we bought property. He lived in 3 centuries! Isn't that crazy?!

The scenic route in Virginia.

Some beautiful random old house.

Here is part of the little brownstone apartment we stayed in in Washington DC.
Crazy!

We've come a long way baby!

I hope you enjoyed seeing these. I love seeing places I haven not been.

I'll be back to my regularly scheduled program next Monday!

Busy Thimble

If I was going to have a quilt shop, I'd want it to look just like this!
It was a little rainy heading from Portland to Litchfield for our appointment to shop at Cyndi's quilt shop.

The link to Cyndi's blog- HERE.

Filled with lots of quilts and almost exclusively reproduction fabric!

Cyndy's potholder quilt! Amazing reproduction.

Oh yes!

Here is Cascadia, one of my quiltalongs.

So simple but effective and so sweet!

Wendy, of The Constant Quilt blog, came to visit as well! I was as thrilled as I could be being able to meet her in person. We've known each other online for several years now. We just grabbed a couple of cute quilts to hold- we had lots of choices!

We shopped for about 2 hours and it was finally time to say goodbye and give Cyndi a hug!
She is retiring at some point. I'll try and use up some of that fabric I bought and maybe I'll be able to make a return trip while she is still open! XOXO

We made sure to leave Portland in plenty of time to NOT be late. This  old cemetery was nearby Cyndi's and we were a bit early so we wandered around a bit and and wondered  who these people were and why it seemed to be a forgotten cemetery.

Incredible- Born 1776 and lived 91 years! Oh the stories John Ranks could likely tell! According to Ancestry.com he was born in Yorkshire, England.
Here he is! Ancestry also says he had 20 children!  Holy Smokes!

I loved the urn and tree decor on this one.

If anyone is near McMinnville Oregon on Monday I am presenting a trunk show and doing a string quilt workshop! Send me an email if you'd like more details. HumbleQuilts@gmail.com

We woke up to this pretty scene yesterday morning.

The sun was shining and it melted pretty fast. Look at the lovely blue sky!

Have an amazing weekend!

Friendships and Quilting

Whoop! Whoop! Next month my friend Laurie and I will be travelling east! The New England Quilt Museum will be one of our stops. It just so happens my friend Barb Veddar, will be having her quilt exhibit displayed there at that time!!
Photo from NEQM

We look forward to seeing antique quilts- Tree Motifs from 19th century through today will be on exhibit as well.

We have a few other stops, including Busy Thimble (appointment is made) and
Rocky Mountain Quilts,

Cynthia notified me that the Maine quilt shop hop will be going on and Barb said The Quilted Crow is a nice quilt shop stop. I've heard talk of Marden's. We both love antiques and vintage quilts, so if you have a recommendation for either, please drop it in the comments or send me an email at HumbleQuilts@gmail.com

Feels great to be thinking about traveling somewhere! Friendships and quilting- a great combo!
