Homestead Link-up! ADD YOURS!

I'm looking forward to seeing all the Homestead quilts!

Your quilt does not need to be completely finished. I know many of us make a top then put it in line for quilting.

It is not difficult to add, please try before sending me your photo. (huumblequilts@gmail.com) It used to be you had to have a link, now you should be able to add a photo from your device.

Whoop! Whoop!

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

Homestead- Finale 2024 Quilt-a-long

Here is a tiny part of the binding of the original quilt.

I neglected to get a shot of the backing. I do know I love to find a surprise print on the back of antique quilts.

Here is my surprise backing.

Here is the binding I used.

Here is the antique that you may be able to zoom in on and see the quilting.

I stitched in the ditch (by machine) around the 9 patches, green squares and setting squares.  Then hand quilted a 2" grid through the entire quilt.

It is your quilt, finish as you'd like. But as a new quilter I disliked reading "quilt as desired" so I like to give ideas.

Make sure to add a label, then enjoy your little quilt!

I'll set up a link party in a couple of weeks so we can see all the quilts in one place. There are some beauties I'm seeing in the Facebook group!

Thanks for sewing along.

Homestead Quiltalong Part 2

Here is the reproduction green I used to finish the double 9 patch blocks.

I LOVE the green in the original quilt!

We will cut eighteen (18) - 3 1/2" squares from the green print. (Or whatever your chosen color is)

Use 2 matching 9 patch and 2 green squares, piece as shown above.
Make 9 blocks. Your blocks should measure 6 1/2".

Put on your design wall and admire your work!

Have a terrific weekend!

Homestead 2024 Quiltalong! Let's Get Started!

Here's my 25" square Homestead quiltalong for 2024. I hope you'll sew along!!

Here is a closeup of a few of my blocks.

Here are a few from the antique quilt.

You can refer to this link for color option and ideas.
https://humblequilts.blogspot.com/2024/09/homestead-2024-sewalong.html

So we will start making 9 patches for Homestead.

We will need light/dark/ and red. (You can choose to use a medium for a light or dark)
I'll be using the words light and dark,
We will make two 9 patches that are the same.

Cut 2 dark 1 1/2"x6 1/2" strips

Cut 1 light 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" strip.

Cut 2 of the same light 1 1/2"x 3 1/2"
Cut one red 1 1/2" x3 1/2"

Sew these strips as shown. Press carefully toward the dark/red.

Subcut these into 1 1/2" pieces. You will have 4 dark-light-dark and 2 light-red-light

Sew them into 9 patches with the red in the center.

Perfect! Press carefully.

Now make 8 more sets. I opted to use the same red center and change up the light and dark.

If you are new to Humble Quilt sewalongs- it is random. I don't "release" on any specific days. Easy steps have less time between.

On another note:
My daughter says please tell the Humble Quilt ladies they really brightened my day.

Thank you to all who took the time to send her a birthday greeting. It means so much to me and her!

Have a great weekend. Please feel free to share your 9 patches on the Facebook group- find it HERE.

Homestead- 2024 Sewalong

This was an antique quilt I saw at Homestead Hearth this year! The larger version is more effective than the little one we will be doing, but both are still so charming!

Humble Quilts Homestead will measure 25" square so it will make a cute table topper.

Such a simple quilt but visually so pleasing.

Every nine patch has a red center.

The other parts of the nine patch will be up to you.

You can see the original tan binding in the nine patch photos above. This is what I used for the main fabric. I wish my pink would have been a bit brighter like the original

You don't need much fabric. If you are on the Facebook group (HERE) I'd love to see your choices!

We will start cutting later this week.

When we decided to sell out Wyoming property we had no idea what the future had in store. At this time I am so grateful I am close enough to drive to Portland and help my daughter. It would have been impossible living so far away.

Homestead- Home is where your heart is.
