Antique Quilt

Last year I purchased this lovely quilt top in Missouri from Jessica. I thought it was fun and quirky and still agree with that assessment.

I finally got it sent off to Sharon to work her magic. We went back and forth a lot about how best to quilt this beauty and keep the integrity of the antique fabric.

It looks like pencil writing on the one piece- 100? 10¢? Some things are meant to stay a mystery,

One dot block fabric is having some issues.

Here is the backing where you can get a good look at the quilting.

Hand quilting would have been the better solution, but I cannot hand quilt much anymore, so at this point I think long arm quilting is better than a closet.

Have a wonderful weekend! Sisters outdoor quilt show is tomorrow. I'll be at the Village green park around 11:30-12:00 for lunch. If you see me please stop and say hi or join us!

Friday Fun!

I'm all over the place this week!

Isn't this tree in progress lovely? This belongs to Kathy. I'll be pulling fabric for my February blocks soon.

Here is a lovely quilt and fun setting for Jannie's Tree of Life! I love it!

This came from my friend Linda who moved and was cleaning out "unwanteds" from her sewing space. I'm finally going to get it quilted! I have it folded so you only see 1/4 of it, but it is a beauty!

I've been photographing quilt tops for my ETSY shop. I spy Elsa!

Here is a beauty I will have in my ETSY store soon. Feel free to email me at Humblequilts@gmail.com if interested.

Like so many older quilts they are not perfect! I LOVE how they made this work!!

I'm heading to a quilt retreat today! I'm looking forward to lots of sewing time and catching up with friends.  Have a terrific weekend.

When Quilts Come Home

I had this adorable mostly madder partial quilt top in my Etsy store and sold it recently to Betsy Chutchian. Here is her message to me after the top arrived including the photo below.

Top arrived! Thank you Lori. Do you remember where you bought the top? I have a long row of the very same quilt. I saw your section and had to have it. The funny part is I took my part to Terry Thompson’s fabric camp in the 1990’s. She pulled out what looks to be your section. I crept up behind her and held up my row. When she glanced over, the look on our faces was priceless, can’t find that photo. I bought mine in Fort Worth, Texas from a Colorado antique dealer and hers was purchased in Kansas. Small world. Both parts are shown in Gone to Texas for Crowfoot chapter. I’d love to know where you bought the top, or anything else you might know if it’s history. Thanks again! Betsy
From the Gone to Texas book.

Isn't that wonderful?!

I purchased this partial top from collector Lynn Evans Miller before the pop-up shop. I believe she used to live in MO but now she resides in Arizona. Did she purchase it from Terry Thompson? I guess it is possible.

From Betsy:
There one more bit to the story…at that fabric camp, Terry jokingly said whoever dies first, should have it written, that part should go to the other. We both laughed and commented on it for many years through a number of fabric camps and quilt markets. She had such great knowledge of quilt and fabric history. Of course, please blog about it. It’s always been a great story, now better, that the quilt found me. How random? Or just meant to be??

Lori says: Meant to be for sure!

Here are a few photos of the fabric since I know we all enjoy seeing close ups.

Fun on a Friday!

Here are a few lovely quilt tops I have put in my Etsy shop recently. I so enjoy getting up close and personal with these quilts!

I'll post a link under the quilts if you want to see more photos- close up! Most of the handwork in these quilts are superb. I think I need to learn to hand piece!

The "tulip" part is appliqued.

This is a real stunner! The handpiecing is incredible. One of my favorites of the bunch.

1/2 quilt! Madder Stars

I've been working on our fall sewalong! It's called Homestead! I should get the top complete today, then I'll layer and quilt. More on that later! Have an amazing weekend dear friends.

Incredible Fabric- Quilt Top

At first glance this doesn't look too special.

But a closer look reveals more!

This top is beautifully hand pieced.

Minty

The brown geometric prints are stunning!

I'm a little baffled on the minty green. 1860's?

This looks fussy cut to me.

A real beauty! I'd love to know your thoughts on the year for the fabric and quilt.

It is in my Etsy shop!
