Here's my little Lockdown quilt.
I often make quilts to commemorate an event or period of time and this is it.
(after quilting, before binding)
I used basting spray so I did wash it when it was complete. By then it was dark, so I chose the next best place to photograph it.
At the beginning I called it "Stay Home, Save Lives" . But I've worked even more and not sure I've saved one life, so I've renamed it more appropriately.
Lockdown 2020
I had a little piece of this neighborhood fabric left and thought it was perfect! I even had to piece it, but you can hardly notice.
I had my label made and somehow I didn't move it and it had 2 lines of quilting on it before I noticed. I didn't think I'd be washing this little quilt much so I left it since it describes Lockdown perfectly!
Skewed, unorganized, but doing the job!
I heard 33 states are starting to open up- mine is not one! We've had very few deaths, thank goodness. Out of 2.4 million Oregonians only 2,680 had tested positive with 109 deaths.
I've seen many memes on facebook saying things shouldn't get back to normal. I'm not sure what that means. I'm looking forward to normal again.
On another note:
Saturday was to be my last training hike before going to Peru with my daughter. One end of this hike was at a state park, which is now closed. So I did an 11 miles out and back.
Look at these beautiful wildflowers in bloom! Even in the dry desert God paints his brush strokes and gives us beauty.
Blessings to you all. Have an amazing week!
Re- opening means that the number of people that will get sick will increase, that will need to happen anyway before we will be going back to 'normal'. The problem is that if many people get sick and there are not enough beds on ICU more people are dying. I think it is a difficult choice....
ReplyDeleteLove the little rememberance quilt.
Your Lockdown 2020 quilt turned out SEW cute!! I love the quirky nature of the quilt. Thanks for sharing the wildflower photos from your hike. Sorry about the demise of your Peruvian adventure, Lori. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a lockdown quilt! That would be a fun thing to do. The wildflowers are gorgeous. I guess California is having a stellar year for wildflowers too. Sorry you've missed your trip this time around.
ReplyDeleteDarling quilt. And the wildflowers are so beautiful. Only time and history hindsight will tell us if the choices we made this spring are right. For now I count my blessings, and value every day I and my family and friends survive.
ReplyDeleteYour little locked down home is so charming..Very "modern prim" i feel. Inspiring...thanks for the beautiful flower photos--nature keeps giving us hope...stay safe
ReplyDelete~ ~ ~ waving underneath overcast skies...Julierose
Your quilt is darling! A definite pick-me-upper! 11 miles...you go girl! Wow!
ReplyDeleteThe name Lockdown with skewed label
ReplyDeleteIs a great documentary of this historical event.
Fun fun quilt, Lori! I always enjoy your commemorative quilts!
ReplyDeleteYou have made a very appropriate historical quilt; cute as it can be! I'm keeping a folder with various information about life changes resulting from this pandemic. If you wouldn't mind, I'd love to print the page with your quilt to go in my folder for my family to reminisce over when this is all over some day. You are right; the Lord does give us much beauty in His world, though we don't always recognize it. I always enjoy the beautiful places you show us; you always capture beauty everywhere you go. Have a safe trip to Peru. ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteYour spring flowers are soo beautiful! I'm finding I am really enjoying spring this year. It's good for the soul.
ReplyDeleteLovely and whimsical in a time that feels anything but. Thanks for sharing. We aren't opening up yet, either. There's no where I want to go right now, so it doesn't bother me much. I'm a pretty patient person, and this time has really allowed me to focus on day to day instead of always looking ahead to what is next. Be well!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute little Lockdown quilt! Great name! Love those beautiful desert flowers :)
ReplyDeleteLove your little lockdown quilt. That's a great idea to mark this time. Hope you and yours are doing well. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI'm ready to get back to normal too. I'm so frustrated with the Northwest Governors! Your little lockdown quilt is super cute. Love the bird on top of the chimney.:)
ReplyDeleteYour wonky house made a good piece to remember the crazy times we have been going through.
ReplyDeleteYour sweet, wonky, lockdown house made me smile today. Smiles are rare in these stressful times. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is so sweet and I'm glad the little figure in the window has a big smile on her face. Your wonky label is perfect as it illustrates the distracted states of mind we are all in right now!
ReplyDeleteYour little quilt is sew cute, Lori, although I preferred the first name you had..."Stay Home, Save lives". I guess I'm not feeling that we're in so much of a lockdown as we are staying home and staying safe. This virus has been terrible for so many people. Now it's affecting our food chain(meat factories)! I'm glad you're still getting out for hikes and enjoying the beauty of nature. I always enjoy seeing your pictures from your hikes! Take care and stay safe!
ReplyDeleteKaren, When I was telling my husband the first name and the second name, I was dying of laughter. We have very few cases of Covid and nurses are being laid off. It's nonsense to not start opening up responsibly. It is seriously starting to feel like a lockdown.
ReplyDeleteI too have a lockdown quilt but mine was intended for a CA State Fair Competition.
ReplyDeleteThat little label just says it all being wonky like that. I would hand stitch it down and call it good.
Great Lockdown quilt, and label! Love the wildflowers too!
ReplyDeleteAdorable quilt, love the little person in the window. Lockdown is the perfect name. We here in IL are locked down mainly due to the irresponsible folks in Chicago. The majority of southern IL counties are doing fine but we're being forced to stay locked. I worry about the economy. Seriously, so many unemployed, so many companies (small businesses especially) are having such hard times staying open. I fear our great country is going down the tanks. USA! USA! USA! Rah! Rah! Rah!
ReplyDeleteI love your Lockdown quilt! Thanks for sharing your photos of wildflowers and the beautiful landscape around you. God reveals His beautiful nature in creation.
