Fickle Friday

I was the lucky recipient of a few of these lovely panels!

I've been keeping my eyes open for the Southern Generals for about 1 year for someone who asked me about them. Yay! I finally found her one. Her husband is a Civil War buff and she wanted both (north and south generals) panels. 

I offered these on the facebook group before adding them to the Etsy store. I'm happy to say they all found a home!

I'm not sure if I shared this on my blog, but I found some of this at a quilt store in Montana! It is so old I cannot believe it wasn't marked down. Needless to say I purchased all of it.

Here was a lovely gift of "leftovers" from Laura in Idaho. It is a lot of reproductions! Thanks again!

Two sisters wrote these books. Kay was in my class in Idaho.  She was so kind and gave them to me as a gift. Thank you again Kay! I was saddened to hear her sister is suffering from Alzheimer's. Many of you know I walked that road with my mom. 

Hubby and I went out to see if the hedgehog cactus were blooming. We have had a late winter and thought we may be a tad early. 

This was the only ONE we saw blooming!

It isn't a long hike, but it is a steep one. Not sure I'll go back this year. 

 Next week I'll be sharing some stitching I've been doing! Feels good to be back in my sewing room.

Abe Lincoln Museum Quilt

 I got the binding on the Abe Lincoln Museum quilt and trudged out to get a photo while we had a little sun. (A short while later a snow cloud rolled through and it snowed!!)

I really love it. It has a lot of brushed cottons so its a bit cozy but also has bright homespuns so it really sparkles as well!! Not usually a homespun descriptive term. 

I won this pattern and a box of fabric from quilt historian Barbara Brackman. The original pattern called for 12" blocks, but I opted to make them 8".

I thought overall fan quilting would be good for this quilt that would be on Lincolns childhood bed in 1820. We will ignore that it likely would have been hand quilted or tied. Diane Knott did a fantastic job of quilting. She has a fast turn around time too, so check her out if you are looking for a longarm quilter. 

I still had to trudge out in the deep snow again for a place to hang and photograph the quilt. It is March 13th Mother Nature!!

In my box of homespuns was this bright orange that actually fit right in- who cares if it was my son's boxer shorts?!! LOL I finally got a chance to use them in a quilt!

Here is my pieced backing with a good size chunk of Abe fabric from my friend, Jill's stash. It was a very muddy green so it works perfect on the back of this quilt.

Post Christmas Post

 I've got a lot of other sewing I'd like to be doing/finishing up, but I do like to make a sample block before cutting out a whole quilt. This is the pattern and plaids I won from Barbara Brackman. I opted to make the blocks 8" like Juliann. I see a couple of others on Instagram have jumped in as well. It's a fun easy quilt for the new year.

My brother who lives in Shanghai, text on Thursday, said he was in Seattle,  and asked if he could come for Christmas. It was great to see him! We watched a few classic movies and relaxed. Our kids weren't able to come home this year- I missed them!

 I almost forgot my traditional Christmas morning breakfast of Danish aebleskivers! My brother had never had them, so I whipped them up, having everything I needed!

 The first batch is always a little rough as the pan is getting evenly hot. 

 They were delicious, as usual.

My husband want to mix it up so we got a prime rib and put it on his dads rotisserie.(that we inherited and haven't used in 3 years!) Oh my! It turned out perfect!
