Happy Valentines Day!

My heart is full and I feel very blessed! Thank you all for being a part of my life, online and in person! You all enrich my life immensely! 

A reader made a suggestion to replace a couple of strings on the basket, but I'm still stuck moving forward. 

Using the background as a border gives me the illusion of a window.

checkerboard on the right, pretty fabric on the left. Neither is working for me.

Maybe I'll just leave it as a top to bring to class.

Speaking of class.. thank you to those who passed the word about me teaching! I've got a couple of things in the works. 

I made a trip to WA state where a quilter passed away and her daughter was selling and cleaning out her mother's house. Oh my goodness, what a job!

The Week of Love

I didn't get this completed until Valentines day and I was out of town at that time, so here is my sweet little "love" project. 

I had intended to make it for the VA quilt museum fundraiser but I was too slow and didn't get it completed on time. 

I loved this little umbrella fabric for the backing. 

As many of you may have seen either on instagram or my Facebook group I was out of town in a remote area of Washington visiting my brother. This was my first time visiting him at his log cabin. 

A lot of comments that came in to me got a bit jumbled- many I responded to on my phone, but I'll answer a few questions here.

The quilt shop I visited does not do mail order. It is called Country Manor and is located in Battle Ground, WA.

The humble quilt swap will be announced towards the end of March or beginning of April.

It has been awhile since I've seen my older brother. 

I was sure glad we were on the right road although the roads got smaller and more snowy the closer we got!

It was really special to be able to finally see his log cabin!

We had a bit of sun, a bit of snow, and spectacular sunsets!

Elsa had a wonderful time too!

There were so many wild turkeys and they were so big!

I even stitched a little on my turkey challenge quilt!

I'll be packing and preparing for my quilt guild visit to WA next week. Be sure to let me know if you are a blog reader and you come to the guild meeting and /or class!

I was recently in a primitive heart bowl filler  swap and here were my goodies from Susan. They will be enjoyed and treasured!

I did a couple of polka dotty X's and O's.

with the quilt, I've turned it

into a pattern. It's a huge pattern and quite

a few of the border figures are large

enough that I had to have them specially

copied and printed. We've started the process

Welcome February

Here's a cute little simple ditty to kick off the month. Designed by Cheri Payne and I copied fellow quilter Kelley in the changes she made. 

I don't know if anybody remembers this cute little fellow. He was dumped and wouldn't let anybody near him to catch him. Well, he claimed a home and although they are the only ones that can pet him, he is warm and fed and looks so healthy. His name is Red and although he is so shy I always smile when I see him, remembering the day I stopped in winter to try and coax him into my car. 

There are so many lovely string quilts on the linky party. I hope you'll take some time to visit some blogs and leave some linky love.

The Legend of St Valentine:

On February 14 around the year 278A.D., Valentine, a holy priest in Rome in the days of Emperor Claudius II, was executed.

Under the rule of Claudius the Cruel, Rome was involved in many unpopular and bloody campaigns. The emperor had to maintain a strong army, but was having a difficult time getting soldiers to join his military leagues. Claudius believed that Roman men were unwilling to join the army because of their strong attachment to their wives and families.

To get rid of the problem, Claudius banned all marriages and engagements in Rome. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret.

When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. Valentine was arrested and dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off. The sentence was carried out on February 14, on or about the year 270.

Legend also has it that while in jail, St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer’s daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it “From Your Valentine.”

For his great service, Valentine was named a saint after his death.

Gradually, February 14 became a date for exchanging love messages, poems and simple gifts such as flowers.

Feeling The Love

 A little prayer flag made from an antique quilt block. I have one made for me by
Libby@ Paper Napkin Poetry, and I have to admit I copied hers quite a bit. She said she didn't mind...really.....

Remember when I emptied my sewing room to put in new carpet? I found this adorable cross stitch I did many moons ago. (many, many moons ago!) I'm not sure how to frame it. Suggestions welcome.

 

This was on  my design wall recently..I had good plans to get something done before Valentines Day. I guess it will wait until next year.

 

I was so close to finishing my Sally Post blocks. Now is the time!
