I had the pleasure of meeting Debbie who is now living in Central Oregon. She finished her Sweet land of Liberty top. We did this as a Humble Quilt sewalong and you can use the search box in the upper left to find out more info. Debbie, your top is really wonderful!

We have had some beautiful blue skies and cold nights and mild days. Today we had black clouds blow in and the sky looked menacing. Tonight in the hot tub all the stars are out! Such fickle weather!!

Happy Valentines Day! Because I'll be away, honey and I went out last night.

This and That Friday

Jean P shared with me her Sweet Land of Liberty quilt from our quiltalong.

She's still sewing away and I hope you are too!

 Isn't it just as cute as can be??!

I was recently in a primitive heart bowl filler  swap and here were my goodies from Susan. They will be enjoyed and treasured!

I did a couple of polka dotty X's and O's. 

I joined in Barb's star swap- modern and repro! Here's the goods!! Thank you Barb and all the swappers!

The quiltalong we are doing this year is from this book and is the pattern below. There are many projects in this book, not just that one pattern. 

Update from Jan : Speaking of Anniversary quilts

this is the quilt I made for our 25th

anniversary. It was published in a book

called Together Again by Linda

Brannock and I which is now out

of print.

Since Humble Quilts is doing a QAL

with the quilt, I've turned it

into a pattern. It's a huge pattern and quite

a few of the border figures are large

enough that I had to have them specially

copied and printed. We've started the process

Finale Sweet Land of Liberty

Finished! Færdig! Fini! Fertig!Befejezett! Ferdig!Terminado!

I'm so happy to say this quilt is complete! Actually I want to add a couple of eyes- One to the fish and one to the red bird. But other than that, it is quilted and bound!

Here's a sunshiney view of the fan quilting that Diane did for me. Someone else did theirs with fans and I thought it looked great so that is what I did too.

Here are a few close ups of the different sections.

In the sunlight the quilting looks like it is competing with the top. 

Indoors it isn't that way at all! I'm using on my couch right now and it is very soft.

I generally don't have large enough pieces for the backing, but this worked out good.

Here are a few close ups of the patriotic fabric.  All of the light colored strips on the side came from my friend Jill's fabric stash after she passed away. I treasure those pieces!!

The flag binding came from her stash too.

With a quilt that has so many reds, I throw in a few color catchers.

Looks like they did their job!

Sweet Land of Liberty- Linky and Instruction Finale

This was our September assignment:

And then sew them together with the previous months, like this....

And then this!! It isn't quite finished as there is one more row at the bottom!

If you were following along these should have already been made in a previous month. If you don't, then now would be the time to make them. They finish 5x7".

Your October assignment, which is also the finale:

Is to make 3 houses (5x7 finished) and 3 more stars. Alert: one star will be 4x6 like we made for the top row, the 2 others will be 5x7. This will make your row the correct size!

See the smaller star to the left of the house? I added a bottom strip so it was the same height as the other stars. 

Both the houses and the other 2 stars you  need to make will finish at 5x7. You can easily draw a house pattern. You guys have been awesome making the quilt your own, so I think Cheri would approve of me showing you this page of the pattern. 

Here is my finished quilt top!

Denise opted to finish hers with more economy patches and flying geese. Thank you Denise for sewing along with us and showing us some different ways to make the blocks.

I had to add a couple of flying geese to the left border of the last row. 

 It didn't work out mathematically so, I did what Cheri would do.....

Cut it off!! Looks dandy to me!!

Whoop! Whoop! You ladies have been awesome and Cheri would be thrilled to see how you are making it your own.

Finally on a Friday

I'm so glad to be back to posting, hopefully on a normal schedule again.

I  suggested you try and get your 2 parts of the Liberty quilt together. I took my own advice!

It isn't the best photo, but the bottom row is all that's left! Whoop! Whoop! Next Friday we will have a linky party and see how everyone is doing. Monday October 1st will be the final instructions!! Cheri would be so proud of your creativity!

I won this cute panel to make a fall/halloween banner from Quilters Coop. I haven't had a chance to look online and see how I am supposed to do it! Any thoughts?

Sweet Land of Liberty- September

Are you ready???

 This is what we will be working on this month, plus a little bit more if you have time..... 

 For this block you will cut the center background 10"x11 1/2",  You will also cut from background and red,  Two (2) 10"x1 1/2" strip, Two (2) 11 1/2"x 1 1/2". The half square triangles in the corner finish at 2". Assemble the block, then applique the angel. Overall this block measures 15 1/2"x 131/2" unfinished.

Background for this block is cut 7"x12 1/2". 

 This block background needs to be cut 7 1/2" square.

The bird int eh urn needs to be cut 12 1/2"x 10"

I used the flying geese I had made previously but I'm going to need to make more, so you may as well make them here. These will measure 2 1/2"x4 1/2" unfinished.

Here are Denise's lovely blocks!

Then you will lay them out and sew together similar to this:

I had to add a strip to the right side of the triple stars. Do what you need to do to get all 3 rows the same size. I had to trim a little of the log cabin bird block and the top of the oak leaf. 

I needed to add a strip on the right to the top 2 rows to make them the same size as the bottom. Again, Cheri says "add a strip, or trim when needed" This is what will make each quilt unique!

 Believe it or not, these two sections measured the same! 

 I measured this row...

 And the upper portion that we have completed and they were 6" difference. 

 Ah, yes, 2" finished flying geese on the left side

And 4" finished economy patches on the right side should do the trick! 

If you can get that part done (you should already have them made from a few months ago) and attached you'll be ready to finish your quilt top next month!
