Buhl Bushong Quilt Exhibit

So I met my friend Laurie in Dulles Airport and we took off on our whirlwind trip right away!

Look! Look! Turn around! I need a photo! lol We spent a lot of time doing that!!
This old building was in Strasburg.

Union church circa 1825

We made it! Harrisonburg is where the Virginia Quilt Museum is located.

The original quilt- circa 1855

Such a terrific variety of quilts were chosen for the museum exhibit.

I have to admit that it was pretty special seeing my quilt hanging there! (on the right)

I hope you enjoyed that exhibit!

Have a great weekend.

VA Quilt Museum

I finally have seen a few photos from the Virginia Quilt Museum!

Yvonne has a quilt on display and this one on the right is mine! So excited to see it here but will be seeing it in person (obviously the entire exhibit) next week! I believe we will be at the museum on the 20th or 21st. Feel free to email me humblequilts@gmail.com if you will be nearby!

Here is Yvonne's entire post HERE. Please take a look!

Monday Muse

My Buhl Bushong quilt is on its way to the VA Quilt Museum for the special exhibit starting
September 23rd. I will not be able to be there for the reception but have plans to be at the museum sometime around October 20-23. If you are nearby I'd love to meet up!

Would also love to know any terrific places to see antique quilts or textiles
in the area or in Washington DC. Email me or leave a comment! Thank you!

If you follow me on Instagram (loridej and Humblequilts) you know we thought we had a pack rat at the machine shop. Nope we had little bag a bones kitty. The morning we caught her a mom and daughter came in to drop off  something, heard the story, and came back to get her for her forever home. The report is she is doing great! The daughter is young, but not too young and just loves "her" kitty so much.

Elsa and I got out for short hike Saturday morning. It was so quiet and peaceful. Only a few cows mooing.

There was a smoky haze in the distance so no mountains to be seen.
Elsa was checking out the cows below!!

Have a wonderful week!

VA Quilt Museum and A Garden of Hope Exhibit

The Virginia Quilt Museum will have a special exhibit of Buhl Bushong quilts  from September 21-December 23. It is called
"A Garden of Hope"
I found out this week my quilt was accepted to be included!

I'd love to be able to attend the reception but I have a prior commitment. Hopefully I'll be able to go at some point while the quilts are hanging.

My quilt is entirely machine appliqued.

Sharon Tucker did an amazing job on the quilting!

I have to get busy and add a hanging sleeve!

I hope you are having a great week!

Buhl Bushong Finish! Boom!

My lighting wasn't the best but here it is!!

It is about 87" square and was quilted by Sharon of Grass Roots Quilting.  She is great about making sure what you want works with your quilt. We bounced back and forth lots of ideas and sketches until something clicked! I can recommend her highly. The batting is Quilters Dream 100% cotton select. Thanks for cheering me on to get this complete! My first post about it was Sept 11, 2019

Sneak Peak

I got my quilt back from the quilter a couple of weeks ago and finally got a chance to get it trimmed. This weekend I'll make binding and get it attached!! Whoop! Whoop!
FYI, It is the Buhl Bushong quilt offered as a BOM from the Virginia Quilt Museum.

After trashing a printer I'm afraid to try it again to make my quilt label. I do really need a better pen for labels. I'm using a Micron5 in black. Do you have any better recommendations?
Here's a peak into my latest Instagram.
Speaking of Instagram, I'll be taking over All People Quilt instagram account this weekend, starting today! I was honored to have a quilt published in the latest issue. Check it out HERE! Thanks!

I'm going to have a giveaway for everyone who has entered their 50 Shades of Brown quilt on the link party. I have never figured out how to reopen a closed party so send me a photo at ldej@crestviewcable.com and I'll add it and you'll be eligible for the drawing! Thank you to all who sewed along!! I was happy so many of you joined in!!
Make it a great weekend! Much Love

Buhl Bushong Top Complete! Boom!

Here is my completed Buhl Bushong quilt top! I pieced a backing while at my sewing retreat last weekend and it is now on its way to Sharon, Grass Roots Quilting, for her to work some magic.

The overall size is about 87" square. The Virginia Quilt Museum reproduced this quilt from one in their collection. They really did an awesome and accurate job. The original antique is from 1855. Get more info HERE

JoAnn from Quilters Coop sent me some photos of fabrics after I showed her the quilt top and told her I was looking for backing. Thank you Joann! This is the one I used for backing. Turns out it is a lovely French General.  Unfortunately JoAnn is closing her shop so I won't send you a link.
