Anniversary Quilt Complete!

This quilt has been on my bed but I did get some time to photograph it for my blog.

Hubby and I have our 40th anniversary this year. 

I love that Sharon added this cute curly tail.

Anniversary Quilt Sneak Peak

Productive Weekend

Over the weekend I managed to get the binding sewn on the Anniversary Quilt. It is 94x88. I'm feeling great that I am at the stage of hand sewing the binding down.

I asked Sharon to quilt in a few words and she asked if she could put in a few more. I love the up close and personal view we get when hand sewing the binding. 

I got a little more machine applique done on the bird sampler, Cousin's Walk. Funny, the other night I had a great idea for a different border, but for the life of me I cannot remember what that middle of the night thought was!! LOL

I got all 70 swappers matched up and emailed! The way I do it makes more work, but certainly more unique and fun. 

Saturday morning Elsa and I went out for a sunrise hike in the desert.

Mt Jefferson was looking rather stately. 

The Deschutes River snaking its way though the valley. 

 

Motley Monday

I got a little of this and that today. 

Here's a sneak peak of the anniversary quilt! It's going to take me a bit to get the binding applied. Sharon Tucker did a great job! Thank you Sharon! If you are looking for a quilter on the west coast Sharon is in WA and I highly recommend her. She is great at communicating before she gets started on your quilt. Anybody notice a problem with this binding?  Ugh! I did several seams this way!!

We have over 50 swappers! (there is room for more!)  I'm close to finishing my hand quilting on my swap quilt so decided to cut my binding and made a label since I was doing it for my anniversary quilt.

My daughter brought her corgi pup with her to visit. He is about 1 year old. He and Elsa had a great time together. Here they are relaxing in the shade after doing crazy laps around the yard.

Fun on a Friday

I'm working on the final border! 

It is slow going since my sewing room is so chilly. 

Next weekend I am getting together with friends for a sewing retreat. This quilt top will be completed and backing made!

Wednesday Tidbits

For those of you who inquired about the quilt I am working on, here it is. 

If you do not have this book, Jan reprinted the pattern and it is available on her website HERE.

As I look forward to completing the applique on the final border I also start considering my backing. 

This is my preliminary sketch of my backing. I do plan on having this machine quilted so am adding 8" to both sides to accommodate.  As you can see this is inaccurate but gives me a visual of what I'll need to do.

This is a bit more accurate. I try not to put a seam down the center of the backing. I want to keep this one primitive with homespuns on the back. 

Which brought me HERE.  I made some shop samples for Doni in the past and know she has a wide variety of primitive style fabric. What I didn't know was that I'd find them for $3 yard!

So, I've got an order in for a couple of different homespuns. Looks like I'll have to piece this backing since I couldn't find any 108" wide backing that I thought was suitable for this quilt. 

Now I need to contact one of my quilters and see what kind of wait list I'll be on. 

I think I'm done with super large quilts for awhile!

Anniversary Quilt

I got my second border appliqued and attached! Woot!Woot!

It is going to be another ginormous quilt! 

The left border is what I got completed this weekend,

I added to the lower corner after attaching the border and will still need to applique the stem and the woman. 

 One more border to go!

Anniversary Quilt Update

I've had a hard time focusing this past week. Just to focus on one thing has been hard! 

I had an online guild meeting Monday and I'm prepping for an applique class, so bouncing from one thing to the next. 

I finally made it into my sewing room for a little bit this week, 

I added this rooster to the border I had completed, but had a big empty space that needed something. I think it turned out cute. 

And got started on the next border, pig, basket, flower complete!

I challenged my friend to a minimum of 20 minutes of activity every day the month of January. I squeaked out a chilly walk at Smith Rock. This is a popular rock climbing area but I have to admit I've never seen anyone on this set of rocks! Look way in the center at the top!! That is a person!

Anniversary Quilt Update

I have the bottom border of Jan Patek's anniversary quilt appliqued and attached! There are a couple of gaps that I will likely fill in with more applique. 

The little log cabin was fun to do and so cute! I'm doing most of the applique in black thread to keep the primitive feel. 

I am the coordinator for our church's Angel Tree program. Els, Cory and I finished delivering presents this weekend. 

After that was complete we made it out for a short hike. We don't have snow in our area yet, and none in the forecast for Christmas, but the weather is supposed to get cold again. 

Have a great week anticipating Christmas and the reason for the season.
