Hey! I finally have a finish for 2026!

This quilt was started by Juliann Phillips and she donated the patterns and the blocks she had completed  and prepped when I was looking for donations for Faith Seeds International.

A local women did the quilting. It is lovely!

Designed by Jan Patek.

Lone Cabin- Complete!

I finally finished getting the binding sewn down on the Lone Cabin quilt.

It is an oldie by Red Wagon. 

Many machine quilters don't like to do fan quilting, so I sent it out to a new person. Get info HERE.

Primitive Lone Cabin

Here is what I have so far. I've added the 3 stars. 

Here's the version that was in the book. I have done these primitive stars this way, but I was having a hard time wrapping my brain around it this time.

Mine turned out backwards, which isn't a big deal, I just had to remember how to do the other 2 so they looked the same. 

I wasn't a fan. 

So I opted for electric quilt and came up with my own version that I paper pieced. 

They are certainly primitive!! Now that I've practiced I need to make a few smaller ones.

Log Cabins and More

While we were retreating we decided to make a quilt called Lone Cabin. It is in an old book Red Wagon Originals- HERE You can get it for a few bucks but be prepared to work with older and primitive patterns. 

Below is how my cabin went together.

I made mine first and suggested to the others to cut the strips a tad wider.

The directions say to applique that vertical strip. 

My log cabin needs a real contractor! hahaha

I unsewed below the door and sewed the bottom in. 

Complete! Definitely prim!

I made a quick trip to Tacoma area and although I got stuck in rush hour traffic, I got to enjoy this amazing sunset!

Game day brought fam to the house. Elsa is a big lover of kids! She was happy to play with them. 

What a Super Bowl game! I was rooting for the 49ers, but OT in a Superbowl is something else!

Little Quilts

Here's a Prim quilt I put the finishing touches on this week. It was one block of a quilt called Remembering Cheri after Cheri passed away from cancer. It is growing on me the more I see it! LOL

Here's the solid little quilt with the yellow binding. I LOVE it!

It is backed by a piece of feedsack. This makes me pine for spring!

I machine quilted both of them.

I hope ya'll are doing great! I feel like I'm surrounded by Covid but so far, so good!

Log Cabins

Here is the log cabin block for the Anniversary Quilt I'm working on. The borders are ready to applique! I pieced the strips on this one, then applied the fusible. 

One purchase I have NEVER regretted is the applique pressing sheet. Check it out HERE. (this is one of many sites with this product) 

This log cabin has 7 pieces. I can lay them all out on the pressing sheet, move them into the correct place, then press. The pieces all stick together, but once it cools I can lift it off the teflon sheet. Now I can place it on my border, press, and it will fuse and then I'll machine applique. 

I've used this teflon pressing mat for at least 15 years and I love it!

 

Sometimes it is easier to just dump out the totes! The room is now cleaned up ready for my nephew to stay here later this week.  

 

 

 

It's been cold, but cannot let a bluebird day go to waste!

Together Again February

 I have my top section pieced

And have my lower 4 blocks ready for applique. I had to piece a couple of them too. 

I'm going to start by adding the angel on the top section, then start pulling fabric for one of the blocks. I am really considering buttonhole stitch in black! (by machine) 

Have you gotten any fabric pulled yet?

PS, When I pulled out the angel pattern I was surprised at how HUGE it was! It doesn't look that large on the quilt.

There has been some talk about the difficulty of finding the book. I found a copy on ebay last week and let a couple of people know. Someone offered their copy on the Facebook group. One person who wants to do the quiltalong contacted Jan Patek and she thought she may be willing to publish the pattern. If you are still looking for the book, keep your eye on Ebay or Etsy and feel free to let Jan know you are interested in making this quilt but need the pattern.

Wow, here we are in February already! It is a short month, so let's get to sewing!

First Finish of 2020- Blackbird Gathering

Ta-Da! I'm pleased to report the completion of the first quilt of 2020!

My friend, Linda, was not happy with her UFO's so offered several of these block to me. Uh, yeah, I just looked and it was 3 years ago!! Check out which ones were hers HERE. 

I brought it outside to try and get a better look at the quilt and quilting.

Thank you Diane, Butterfly Threads Quilting for quilting this for me! She kept it simple in keeping with the primitive quilt top.

Hanging out in the jacuzzi and look who wants to play??!! 

I said I'd be having the fundraiser book sale on February 1st, but that is Saturday. I'll be doing it on Thursday and Friday of this week,. So keep your eyes open! I have a large stack!!

Anniversary Quilt 2020 Quiltalong

Here's our 2020 Humble quilts quiltalong! It's called Anniversary Quilt designed by Linda Brannock and Jan Patek. It's an oldie, but it seems many of us have the book and a few are still on the hunt!

Here is a single block that's in the book that I made several years ago.

The block is a variation of a whig rose- primitive style and Barbara Brackman has a bit to say about that block, if you are interested go HERE.

We'll start off slow, just choosing fabric for the center background.

I'm not planning on purchasing any fabric but using what I have in my stash. Here is the background for the center blocks, which will finish at 30"

And here are some pieces I'll use to make the center top pieced section. 

If you are joining in, go ahead and start pulling some fabrics for your background. I'm also keeping in mind the large border for the fun applique. (I may have to break my no purchases rule for that border!)
