Fall Festival

Fall Festival, our 2017 Humble Quilts quiltalong, is complete and ready for fall!!!

I asked Sharon to keep the quilting simple, just like the quilt.

I added the wool eye on the turkey after the quilting. After adding sharp star buttons on my Flags quilt I knew I didn't want to do that again.

Because this was a large quilt, I opted for a wide backing to keep it simple.
I also found that terrific fall colored fabric in my stash to make the binding.
So thrilled to have this one complete.

I hope your week is going well.

Fall Festival in Winter

You know what I get for showing you my bulbs coming up last week? SNOW! Joke's on me!

Well, as long as I'm confused about the seasons I'll show you a quilt I got back from Sharon Tucker, machine quilter extraordinaire! Well, I didn't actually ask her for any fancy quilting on this one, but just a simple all over design.

Afterall, it is a primitive quilt.  At first glance it looks like meandering, but it really is a design.

I may try and get a label and binding made this week, but likely won't get more completed until I return from Colombia. Thank you Sharon!

Make it a fantastic week!

Friday Fall Festival Finale!

Our last assignment was to put your blocks together and complete your Fall Festival top. This quilt is huge! I had a hard time taking photos, so here is my quilt in two parts.

My plan was to finish it like Jan's with a small inner blue (?) border,
but I just didn't find anything in my stash suitable.
So I stuck with the same sashing green and will bind it in black or red. Yay! I'm so happy with it! And I hope you are loving your quilt too.
Here is Denise's finished top. She isn't feeling the love about the border, but I think a red or black wide binding would help it pop a bit without removing that border. I like it Denise!
Here is Rina's quilt in progress! It's looking great and will be done before you know it!
Here is a section of Debby's as she gets it together. I don't always expect everyone to stay on my timetable so I do appreciate seeing your quilt in progress, even if you aren't at the same point as everyone else.
(as a side note, look at that lovely madder above the quilt!)

Please add your link, either what you have so far or your finished top. Thanks for sewing along!

Making a List, Checkin' it Twice

I admit to making a list, but not checking it twice. I've been doing so many group things that I've neglected the UFO's in my sewing room. Time to get organized!

Found this beauty in my closet ready to be trimmed and bound! I love it!
This is 9 blocks of the Benjamin Biggs quilt that Gay at Sentimental Stitches offered for free in 2014. Check it out HERE. Quilting was done by Sharon, Grass Roots Quilt Studio in Washington state.
Next up is a cute sampler that Cheri did as a quiltalong. Basted and ready to be machine quilted by me!

Getting my Fall Festival top assembled.
The last quiltalong was Back Porch/Front Porch Summertime by Jan Patek. Need to get a backing made.
More to come!

Friday's Folly

Spring is finally in our forecast! Sunny days and blue skies are in the works for the rest of the month! Whoop! Whoop!
I've been sewing a little this week:
Slowly getting the Fall Festival quilt top assembled. It's a large quilt so it is spread out all over my upstairs.
I'm happy with how it is coming together, but I admit, I've done a fair amount of unsewing!

I'm getting together a little kit for the next quiltalong. It includes soft faded/worn fabrics, including pink.
I'm not sure how many flying geese I need for the ABC quilt, but I'm slowly cutting up my bag of homespun scraps for that one and using a few pieces as leaders/enders.

My Instagram feed for the week. It's been a fun, but challenging week.

37 years ago yesterday, Mount St Helens erupted. I still remember that and the ash falling in our town. What an amazing and destructive catastrophe.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Fall Festival- Month 5

I barely got my pumpkin and vine done for today's show and tell! My sashing is green but I took this photo after dark last night and it looks very washed out.

Here is Denise's pumpkin and vine, although as you can see her top is together! Nice work Denise!

I'm not sure how many will have this next part ready but if you do,
please add your blog link or send me a photo.

I think the quilt should go together pretty easily  So lets say June 2nd for our quilt top finale?

Have a great Monday!

Fall Festival Quilt Month 4

Here we are! Month 4 of the Fall Festival Quilt. I know many of you are starting to feel the fast pace-
just think, we are closing in on a finish for this quilt! You can do it!!
The linky will be open for a week, so hopefully you can catch up if you are behind.

Here's my house and dog.

And all 49 of my flying geese. I still need to do some trimming. I'll probably start
attaching them too as shown in the quilt.
Here is Denise's house. She finished her geese last month.

Anne was having computer problems so I'm showing her lovely wool block here today.  Love it!

I'm looking forward to seeing more houses!

Alright, the next assignment, if you choose to accept it (name that movie!)
is the pumpkin and long vine.

Here is Cathy's block that she has graciously shared with us for an example.
I really think we can do this in 2 weeks. Let's meet back here with our completed block on May 1st.

Have a wonderful week! If you want to see a little what I've been doing when I'm not sewing look HERE.

Fall Festival Month 3

Here are my baskets and pineapples for the month.
I have a lot more flying geese to make, but I didn't say we needed to make them all this month.

Here are Denise's. She is having hand surgery so she was being an overachiever! LOL
 Denise's pineapples.
 Debby D's blocks
 More of Debby D's blocks.
Oh yea, Mona was an overachiever too! LOL (love your flooring!)
More of Mona's blocks.

Nice work ladies! I love them all!

Our next assignment will be easy!

Make the house block and more flying geese blocks. We will check back in 2 weeks! (April 17th)

Fall Festival Month 2- Photo Heavy

We had a big assignment for the second month of Fall Festival. The turkey was optional, so that is fine if it isn't complete. Just keep working on it for next month's show and tell.
I'll probably loose a few points on my stars, but they are done!

Whew!
Here are Debby D's blocks.
I'm adoring the turkey fabric.

 Here is Rina's block 1
Here are Denise's moons from last month and the rest for this month.

Denise's

 Mona's great blocks!
I didn't want to tell her that I don't see the flag. :)

Next month's assignment:

 3 Pineapples 12 1/2 x 8 1/2
                                                               2 square baskets 12 1/2"

 and 1 tall basket 18 1/2x 8 1/2

And if you have time,  make a few flying geese (finish at 4x2") for the sashing so they will not all be left at the end. Next show and tell April 3rd!

Have a wonderful week!
