ABC Sampler Done!

Look what I finished in Ohio!

I love that this sampler is so individualized it won't look like anyone else's. Thanks Karen for working alongside me to get this cute quilt done. Thanks Cheri for the fun pattern! See Karen's quilt top HERE.
Look what we find in an antique store in Chardon, Ohio! We found a few goodies to take home.

Here is my Instagram feed for the week! It's been a fun time in Ohio with my friend Kat.
I'm home now- time to recover!

Friday Fun!

We made it through another week! My daughter and I have a race tomorrow and other than that we plan on staying close to home and avoiding the crowds.

Next week I am heading to Ohio for a visit with my long-time friend Kathy.  I'm gathering up this and that to take with me to sew. We considered a team project, but we both have enough to keep us busy without adding another to the mix. We will be attending the Genessee Valley Quilt Show in Rochester NY and may be inspired to team up on a project after we go. If you are planning on going we'd love to meet! I'll be there on June 3rd. Kathy has also offered to take me to Niagara Falls! I saw it briefly in the 6th grade so am looking forward to seeing it again.
My BBiggs is trimmed and the fabric is coming with me to get binding made.
I need 60ish flying geese for the ABC quilt so these are coming with me as well.
Here's a big flop! I know the ABC quilt is primitive but these just won't make the cut! Any guesses of what they were going to be?
My Instagram feed for the week. The upper right is a receipt
showing my very first senior discount at the Goodwill! (I guess some places consider 55 a senior!)
Thank you to all who have given their lives in the protection of the United State of America!

Have a terrific weekend!!

Friday's Folly

Spring is finally in our forecast! Sunny days and blue skies are in the works for the rest of the month! Whoop! Whoop!
I've been sewing a little this week:
Slowly getting the Fall Festival quilt top assembled. It's a large quilt so it is spread out all over my upstairs.
I'm happy with how it is coming together, but I admit, I've done a fair amount of unsewing!

I'm getting together a little kit for the next quiltalong. It includes soft faded/worn fabrics, including pink.
I'm not sure how many flying geese I need for the ABC quilt, but I'm slowly cutting up my bag of homespun scraps for that one and using a few pieces as leaders/enders.

My Instagram feed for the week. It's been a fun, but challenging week.

37 years ago yesterday, Mount St Helens erupted. I still remember that and the ash falling in our town. What an amazing and destructive catastrophe.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

ABC Quilt Sampler

My ABC Sampler quilt by Cheri is slowly coming together. It's one of those projects you have to sew strips to make them fit together- no quilt will ever look the same!

V- W

 X-Y-Z

Third row
And the three rows together. I still have a lot of flying geese to make and the top border of applique.

Karen and I have been working on this for a few months now and she is keeping me going! See her quilt HERE,
I hope you are having a great week!

ABC Sampler

I finally got two more applique blocks done this week.

 V is for Victory garden.
W- Wheelbarrow. In Cheri's pattern it was embroidered, but I thought it would be easier to applique it.
Karen is moving right along with her blocks, you can see them HERE

My Instagram feed for the week.

I helped my daughter move to a new apartment this week.
I loved the terraced green roof you can see from her apartment.

I'm bringing our Gwennie quilts to the quilt shop today! I'm so excited to see our exhibit!
Have a wonderful weekend!

ABC Sampler

Here we are again. I'll have to take a slower pace since we are now shorthanded at work. Between hand quilting and hand applique it is causing some pain in my hand, so I may resort to machine applique on more than I planned.

My next job on this quilt is to make this all fit together. The bird and the apple tree are not appliqued yet either. I haven't decided what to do with the faces on the letter U for Us.
My shirt and pants didn't meet......

And that is why he has a belt of sorts. LOL I made the 2 square in a square and it was way too big.

Then I made 2 more that I thought would fit, but they were too big too!

So, I took a clue from one of the other quilts and changed the block completely
and cut it off to fit. Problem solved!
This was a fun block to do. Tin man. (what I always feel like in yoga class!)

Here it is waiting for some sewing room finagling.

Check out Karen's blog to see her great blocks!

Look how great this block looks! I didn't have to make it but was only asked to sign it.

Thanks Ann for the bonus! These will fit wonderfully in my ABC sampler!

Friday we will have the reveal and  linky party for our "Year of the Rooster" challenge!!

ABC Sampler

Here's our next 2 blocks of the ABC Sampler of Cheri's. Every time I get ready to share our blocks and write a blog post I think  of the song, ABC, 123 by the Jackson 5. This video is only 1 minute and if you haven't seen the Jackson 5 in many years it's worth a look! LOL

N-O-P in one ingenious block!

I'm not thrilled with Santa's face as I resorted to machine applique on the smaller pieces.

When put together as a whole quilt, he will be just fine!

Take a look at Karen's blocks HERE.

Have a wonderful week!

ABC Sampler

My applique is getting more primitive the more I do!

This is M- for Mother. There was a lot I didn't like about this one, but when it is all assembled it won't matter much.
I appliqued the heart block and added it to the K-L-Q-R section. One one of the samples I'm using for a guide it has the alphabet stitched in here and one was plain- I went for the plain one! I can add the year and my initials later.
Getting it all to fit is a real hit or miss challenge.

See Karen's version HERE.

Have a fantastic Wednesday!

ABC Primitive Sampler

Here's the next part that Karen and I have completed on Cheri's ABC Sampler. (it is $75 and you will need to email her for the pattern) I am using 3 different completed quilt tops to guide me as I get this quilt together and they are all different. Each one will definitely be unique!

 K and L
We finished Q and R so quickly we added it to our show and tell this week. We decided to work on the blocks below since they all square up together. I love both of the bird blocks!!

The rooster got me anxious to get started on my "Year of the Rooster" quilt challenge

My instagram feed for the week!

Have a fantastic Monday, friends!

ABC Sampler and Book Winner

The next section Karen and I were doing on the sampler was G-H-I-J.

 G-H stands for Grandma's House
I- Ice Cream, J- Jesus. One of the other samplers had that same Cheri manger for Jesus and I liked it enough to make mine that way as well. This has been a fun one to work on.  See Karen's HERE. I know hers will look great, then I'll wish I did something she did! LOL

Thank you to all who commented on Rhonda's book, if you are not a winner you can find it HERE.

The random number generator chose #6

Congratulations Anita! Rhonda will sign and send you the book as soon as I get your mailing address. Thank you Rhonda for keeping us entertained with your writing!!

Have a lovely Monday!

Alphabet Sampler

Here is the next part to the alphabet sampler that Karen and I are doing. There may be a couple of others too. Speak up and I'll make sure to add you to our emails. We also want to see your blocks. These are all going to be very different since the directions are very loose.
The upper right hand flower was the small spokes to my Porch Quilt that I didn't add seam allowance to, so it was cast aside. I'm so glad I could use it in this quilt!
I used an applique basket out of a Jan Patek book. The original is paper pieced, I believe.
Blocks one and two together with a vine underneath them.
The winner of the homespuns is comment #9  Faith Fiene. Thanks for entering!

Here's my Instagram feed for the week. I can't believe it is Friday already. Whoop! Whoop!
Enjoy your weekend, friends.
