First 2025 Finish

I put the final stitches in my liberated string quilt! I had it going for awhile thinking it would be a larger medallion but I couldn't add anything I liked.

I can use this for my quilt class "Bounty of Baskets" and "String Quilts Your Way"
If you can spread the word about me teaching or giving a trunk show to your guild I'd appreciate that. Thanks!

I'm a fan of French General fabric and I thought this was perfect to use my FG stash.

This is a bit wavy because I gently laid it in the snow (Our first accumulation and we are getting more) yesterday when I took this photo.

My retreat girls and I came up with the name- in English Basket of Flowers.

Love this cheater cloth for the backing.

I made a few more houses with my FG fabrics at retreat too. I need to take them all out and do a true count. They are so adorable in any combination.

I hope your week is going good. I had a little road trip yesterday that I'll share later.

Spread LOVE!

Marie Antoinette

I have been intrigued with this French General panel of Marie Antoinette, Queen of France, since I've seen it.
I finally just purchased it.

I have no plan at this time, it was just charming and quirky and I had to have it!!

Home Sweet Home

Here's a "on again, off again" quilt I'm slowly working on. The blocks measure 5x7.

These were the newest ones I made and added to the blocks I had previously made.

I have a little collection of French General fabrics that I love. You may recall the string basket medallion is made from the same tote of FG!

Have a lovely weekend, friends!

A Basket Case

I've got some more houses cut and managed one more little one to add to my collection.

I had some French General strips and decided to use it as a border for the string basket. I'm planning on adding to it just not quite sure what. I'm on the road teaching string quilting so maybe I'll get more inspiration for this basket.  Any ideas or suggestions are welcome!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Steppin' Out Class

I finished my little quilt project for class last night.
Oh my goodness, I love it!

I'm calling this Steppin' Out since I really feel like I'm taking a giant leap into my quilting business by doing a regular online class. My Etsy store is going well and I have several guild bookings, online and in person. I'm super excited to see this year unfold.

Thank you to those who have signed up for my online class! You will get the pattern and Zoom info in the next couple of days.

If you want to sign up for the class that will take place on March 29th, 10AM-Noon, please send $10 paypal to Humblequilts@gmail.com

What are you getting for $10?

  • The quilt pattern via email
  • A photo of the inspiration antique
  • 2 hours via Zoom with me to make the quilt top.
  • A recording will be made and will be good for 1 week after the class for those who cannot make it during the week.

Thank you for your consideration, friends!
Let's have an awesome week!

PS, Fundraiser book sale on Wednesday!

Memories of France and Book Sale Inquiry

I was going to do a bit of machine and hand quilting on this little Sajou Too, but I was on a roll at our Sisters retreat and just went with it!

I did add that awesome French General binding when I got home.
The backing was a map of Paris.

French General label too!

I went to Portland and finally was able to see the new-to-her salon she moved to almost 2 months ago. It is in a cool historic building above Voo-Doo donuts.

 Champagne chandelier??? LOL
When the weather is nice there is a little balcony very similar to a few places we've stayed in Europe. It was rainy the day I went so I only took a sneak peak.
As is our tradition to go to lunch after my hair appointment. This is where I gave her the little quilt for Valentine's Day.

Thank you so much for purchasing the books! I just have a handful left and if you want to take a final peak you can do it HERE.
I'm still waiting to hear from White Eagle, and Linda Z. Please contact me with your mailing address at ldej@crestviewcable.com and I'll get these in the mail to you!

My Instagram feed for the week!

Have a fantastic weekend friends!!

Sajou Too

Here was a little start of a block I found in my French General fabric some time ago.

I decided to use that as a center for a little quilt I wanted to make for my daughter as a reminder of our exciting trip to Paris and the countryside for the European Patchwork meeting.

This may have looked better with mitered corners, but hey, its a humble version! I have it layered and basted and will do a bit of machine and hand quilting.

Hmmm, France in 2015, Italy in 2018, where shall we go next?

I hope you have an awesome week!

Sajou Revisited

I know there were many Sajou quilts made that never made it on the linky party we had. So I am opening it up until Thursday and will draw a number for the French General/ Sajou package shown in the photo.

Parlez-Vouz Francais? And hand Quilting!

I speak very little French, but had a ball in Italy because it was very similar to Spanish.
Most people in the city (Paris)  spoke English, but not in the countryside. My daughter and I went to the European Patchwork Meeting in Alsace and she did most of the translating if we needed it.
So, it was a few years ago and I thought since AI made my little Sajou quilt I'd make a little one for her.

Here's a little bit of a start.

I finished hand quilting this block and moved on the next....
I'm not a fan of hand quilting because I am slow, but I am enjoying working on this.

Friday is our Sajou link up!!

I hope you are having a wonderful week!

Sajou QAL- Part 3 and Finale

Here is my finished Sajou. I apologize to those who don't want their center on point. I seriously never gave it a thought until someone on Facebook mentioned it. My little quilts don't always hang on walls, so if you don't like your center on point you can easily use it on a side table or in the center of your dining table and you won't even know your center is a little sideways.  There is a couple of different ways you can do this last border.
I considered paper piecing it, but wasn't quite sure I'd be able to give you the pattern and have it the same size as you need it. If you'd like to do this, measure YOUR quilt so far and use adding machine tape or paper 2 " wide x the width of your quilt, fold in half so you have a center line, then using your ruler draw equal triangles. (they are actually isosceles triangles- 2 sides the same , one longer side)
Then use this as a paper piece pattern. Do the same for the opposite sides adding a square at each end. Really, it isn't as difficult as this sounds. But I thought my directions would be muddy...... LOL

Or, you can do it another way...

Cut 5 dark squares and 6 light squares  4 1/2" then cut twice on the diagonal for a total of 20 dark triangles and 24 light triangles. Piece 4 borders as shown above and below.
Mark the center of your pieced border and the center of of your quilt so far. Line them up and attach the upper and lower border.
Trim even with your side borders.

Line up the center of your border and the center of your quilt, pin.
I used my hera marker to mark my center.
We still need to fix our corners. Lay it down across the border, fold it back and finger press  DON'T CUT it yet! Add 1/4" to the length, then trim. Add a 2" square to each end.
Then sew your final 2 borders. Ta-da! Admire your little quilt
I machine quilted in the ditch for a few lines and hopefully you can click on this to see how I quilted the rest.
The center strip is from the Beauville factory in France.
We talked about label pens on the Facebook group. I used a pigma micron 5 but still think its too thin.
Here is the inspiration quilt. As far as I can tell it is/was owned by Penny McMorris.

I wanted to keep this year's quiltalong small, but you can continue to enlarge it if you want!

If my directions are not clear please let me know and I'll try to walk you through it.

Thank you all who sewed along! I loved seeing all the versions! I also look forward to seeing them complete. We'll have a linky party in a couple of weeks.

Fun on Friday!

I knew I'd have to remedy the "no handwork" situation.  I found this fun embroidery that I started in a class with Kaari of  French General.

Here's what it looks like when it isn't a wrinkled mess! It's really fun to work on.

Gay has released another set of Dear Daughter blocks. You can get them HERE Love the inked names with sayings and the year.

My son is arriving back to the lower 48 very early this morning.

If you missed it, he's been in Kenai, Alaska setting fish nets for a cannery. His girlfriend flew up a few days ago and they are exploring together before coming home to Oregon.

This was a king salmon he was showing us. WOW! My son isn't super tall but that is a really big fish!
