Welcome! Velkommen! Willkommen! Bienvenida! Bienvenue!

However you say welcome where you live my Welcome quilt is complete!

Diane of Butterfly Quilting Threads worked her magic and transformed my top! I love the fans!

Now it is hanging in my entryway.

Super thrilled with it!

I had an amazing weekend away at a women's retreat. It was peaceful and restorative.
The setting was incredible.
Mt Adams

The property is an old school on the White Salmon River in Trout Lake, WA.

The cloud formation was so cool! I think it is a lenticular cloud.

Seen on my morning walk!

This too!

I'm ready to tackle the week!

Happy May Day!

Welcome Quiltalong Linky Party

I'm finally ready for the linky party!
If you made a Welcome quilt, even a variety of the Welcome quilt we'd love to see it!

This is one I made years ago.

This is the most current one!

I cannot wait to see your version!
Thank you for sewing along.

I think you can now upload from your computer! No "link" necessary!

Finale Welcome Quiltalong

Even though this is the final part we will not have a linky party until I return. That should give you some time to get your top completed.

I made a template from the book for the border triangles. I could have done one large square cut twice on the diagonal, but I wanted more of a variety, so I opted to do each one. You may not want to make this border and that is fine too!

I sewed mine together and laid them out (with the red corner posts) One look at them told me my border was too long. In the humble quilt style I cut mine to fit!

Attach your border on the top and bottom, then add the red squares and sew borders to the sides.
Ta-da! My borders do not meet perfectly, but, again, I am okay with that!
Admire your work!

We have had some lovely days- still cold but so pretty!
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Welcome Quiltalong- Almost complete!

Wait! These aren't blocks in the Little Quilts pattern booklet! You are correct! Usually when I do a small quiltalong the quilt is complete before I start. This time I'm doing with you! I really wanted to get this top completed before going to Dominican Republic. So, I took a shortcut and used a few orphan blocks that I already had. The one on the left is similar to the Little Quilts pattern, but my orphans were a tad small, so I added a border- works for me! The sawtooth star is taking the place of the Lemoyne star and the 9 patch on the right is taking the place of the bow ties. Feel free to make changes or follow the pattern in the book, It is your quilt adn you can make it any way you want!
Here they are all laid out and I thought they looked pretty good.

I like to assemble in sections so I don't have lots of long rows. This way I only have one long seam to sew.

I measured my quilt on both sides and the center and it measured as it should. So I cut my strips 2 side strips and added them.

The books showed a cheddar/gold and I thought I'd really like it, but I didn't. It is hard to tell but my narrow border is dark blue.

Then added the top and bottom. Ta-da! I am adding the pieced border as in the book, but you feel free to make the border any way you'd like! I'm finishing the top and will have the final post on Friday after Thanksgiving.

I packed the giveaway bags last night! They are mostly the pillowcase dresses that you all have made for my mission trip! Yay! So excited!! This represents about 90ish pounds of goods to give away. The eye glasses are on the top and they will likely need to go in my carryon bag so they don't get crushed.
I'll take as many photos as I can of the little girls in your dresses- maybe you'll recognize ones you've made!

Welcome Quiltalong

I've only heard from about 4 people that are working on this. So many of you bought the pattern or had the booklet. Let me know if you are still piecing the top with me! (Some are speedy and already have the top completed, I get it!)

We will finish the letters this time.

Using your 2.5" squares, hst, and 4 patches these can easily be completed.

LOL, I think there was a reason this 4 patch was in the orphan block drawer!

3 more blocks after this and the border! I'm going to get creative and dig into my orphan block drawer.
The unfinished blocks will need to be 8.5".

***I am changing the due date for the historic panel challenge. Instead of the end of November it will be "due" the end of December! We leave for our mission trip in 16 days and I'll be gone the last day of November. I didn't plan ahead very well! I'll likely have my little one completed, but not my larger one. I hope you all are okay with that. I'm usually pretty good with deadlines, but this month is zipping by.

I do plan on having the Welcome quiltalong completed before I leave though! So be ready friends!!

**I've been called for jury duty for the month of November and December. I'm in the throngs of the Angel Tree Prison Fellowship program that I head up every year and my new volunteer position with LINC has been so busy with winter weather arriving. (seems we skipped right over autumn!)
I hope you all will take the time to see someone in need this season and reach out to them. Or help your local homeless shelter with donations, This is going to be a difficult year with the fuel prices (home heating and vehicle) and groceries.  There are many opportunities, but you need to look for them. I'm grateful that I'm able to help in small ways.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Welcome Quiltalong

This week we have an easy block and a not so easy block!

I'm giving some hints on how I did my house block- there are no "right or wrong" way of doing it. Feel free to substitute any of your favorite blocks for this one or find a house block online that doesn't have set-in seams that will finish at 8". I love having options!

For the odd shapes that you cannot just cut with your ruler. I trace the shape onto freezer paper. This is the house roof.

Iron it on your fabric, then use your ruler to cut a precise template

I had to do that with the 2 sky/background shapes (cut one reverse or put 2 pieces of fabric right sides together and use your freezer paper to cut both at one time.  The roof and the front top of the house.

Lay your house pieces out and sew together the easier pieces.
I opted for one square for my window. (the book shows a 4 patch)

My top and bottom sections of the house will be sewn last.

Lay your sky fabric over your chimney. Start at the top and sew until you reach 1/4" from the bottom of the piece. (I marked one so you'd see what I mean)

Then line up the lower background with your upper house. I started from the outside and sewed toward the chimney, stopping 1/4" before the end. (don't run over your other seam)
Mine is humble- that's okay with me.

Sew your house top and house bottom together and admire your work!

If you want to start cutting out the border you can cut a colored square/light square 10" then cut twice on the diagonal for 4 triangles. This puts your border edge on the grain so it will not stretch.

It seems like this simple little project is taking forever! Once I am home from Houston I don't have any plans except for our mission trip in late November.

I hope your week is going well. We have had our first rain in months! And snow in Bend (45 minutes away!)

Welcome Quiltalong & Cabin Fever Americana Sampler

This is my friend, Phyliss's Welcome quilt. Isn't is lovely? Love the blue star especially! Thanks for sharing it!

The color looks so dull on the photos, but here are the next 2 blocks we will be doing. I had a little issue with the log cabin, but that's okay- nobody may even notice! lol

Hey look! Half way through the body of the quilt! Are you keeping up?

I have another donation that is for sale. Dotti sent me this and asked that I put the sale funds towards the mission trip.

SOLD
This is so cool! It is in the shape of a banner. I believe that blue at the bottom is the background it is hanging on, not part of the quilt. It was really hard to get a photo of the pattern, but it is so amazing!

You get 12 patterns....

WITH THE FABRIC! I LOVE these prints!
Is anyone interested in purchasing the entire BOM? Dotti and I thought $6 eachx12= $72.00 total was a reasonable price for them. And it is going for a good cause.  I'll pay shipping!

Send me an email if you want to purchase them. Humblequilts@gmail.com
Thank you!

A friend and I snuck away for a quilt overnighter near Mt Hood! Big moon was awesome!

Look at that mountain! Whoop! Whoop! It was incredible!

Take time to enjoy life! Don't let it zip by you too fast!

Welcome Quiltalong

Part 3 in our quiltalong is today! How are you doing on it?

We will make the letter L and the basket block.

My blocks are a bit humble.... They are still pretty sweet though.

This one is pretty straight forward.

They do not share a piecing diagram in the pattern, so I thought since this one may be a bit tricky to new (or old ) quilters, I'd share how I pieced it.

I got my pieces all cut out and the block laid out. My bottom triangle is a similar fabric, but not the same as the other background. You do not always have to have the same background in one block.
In the above photo my half square triangles are pieced. Unfinished they measure 2.5 inches.

I added my triangle to the side rectangle on both sides.

Then I pieced the center large triangles.

Then I pieced the 2 half square triangles on the left with the plain square and pieced the upper 2 half square triangles.

Add the top triangles, then the triangle/square unit on the left.

Now we will attach the rectangle/triangle unit, lining up at the top.

Do the same with the other rectangle/triangle unit.

Then add the bottom large triangle.

YAY! Admire your quilt block!

And then there were 6 blocks!

Let me know if you need any help or have any questions.

I'd love to see your blocks! Please share them on facebook or send a photo to me at humblequilts@gmail.com
