Vote 2020!

I saw this adorable quilt designed by Country Threads and had to purchase it! I usually try to do some quilt that commemorates an important event.  Every 4 years it is a pretty important event to vote!
Obviously if there are other matters for your state that happen more often, it is still important to cast your ballet!!
I don't understand why people wouldn't vote.

Oregon has had vote by mail for about 20 years. One year I did get 2 ballots so I know it isn't perfect. (nothing that has to do with people is perfect) But it is convenient.

Whatever your state decides for you, please exercise your right to vote.

As far as this quilt, I'm hoping to at least get the VOTE 2020 part done.

You can find it HERE.

Antique Quilt Redo

I found pieces and strips of this quilt in an antique store.

So I bought it and then took it apart patch by patch. I then asked friends to search their stash for similar fabric on the patches that couldn't be re-used.
It is such a sweet quilt and I wonder about the maker and the wonderful variety of fabrics he or she used.

Its hard to tell which fabrics are new and which are old.
That is why it is important to label your quilt with the current date and maybe short sentence about its history.

I love overall baptist fan quilting and you'll see it used a lot on my quilts.

Thanks for your input on my video! I hope you all will be able to see one of my presentations soon!

Much Love

What's a Humble Quilt

Good morning! Please check out my short video on What's a Humble Quilt?
I explain on the video why I'm opting to do this today. Thanks for any constructive input!!

I think it may be better to watch it directly on YouTube.

Got out for a 4 day weekend!! Whoop! Whoop!  These overnighters will end soon because of weather.
First up, Obsidian Trail.
Such a surreal place to hike. The Cascade range is a series of volcanoes which are so evident today.
We had unexpected rain, but the morning brought this amazing view of the clouds below us.
And this view of the mountains on the other side of us. By the way, I still love America!! The good, the bad and the ugly. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Next we drove to a differetn trailhead and headed out early the next morning.

Such a good time to relax and breath lots of fresh air!

Quilt Books for Reference and Inspiration

As I am preparing to do online lectures I realize I have to add a few books I refer to in my
Reruns; Quilts Inspired by the Past lecture.

Dating Fabrics is one I refer to when I want to make a period quilt or would like to date some fabric in an antique quilt.

I refer to this one when I was trying to crack the mystery of Jill's (my NJ friend who passed away) quilt blocks. I love telling that story and how she snuck her style into my humble quilt.

And this one has been researched. Karen and I made a sampler in the style of Ohio Miami's Valley some time ago. It is one that is quirky and humble and I absolutely love it!

What are a few of your favorite quilt books for reference?

PS, A piece of good news- It looks like I am closer to getting a refund for my flight to Peru! It has been a royal pain, but I feel like I'm on the downhill slope!! I had booked on Latam Airlines which made it a bit more difficult to deal with. I filed a complaint Monday with the Dept of Transportation and low and behold they okayed my refund on Tuesday!!

I hope you are having a terrific week!
Much love

Dignity Days Sewing

Some of you may remember when a few friends and myself got together to sew washable pads for Dignity Days in the Ivory Coast.
If you haven't been here that long and you want to know more, click HERE

We made quite a few, enough to get the idea off the ground.

It was always Agelika's hope and prayer some women could start a little cottage industry in the village where they are missionaries.

I just got these photos this past weekend!

I love it when I hear of a vision and that vision becomes reality! Hopefully more girls will be able to stay in school and these pads will make a gentler impact to the environment in the Ivory Coast of Africa.

Have an amazing week!

Zoom! Zoom!

It looks like for now Zoom is how most quilt guilds will be meeting.
I hope it is only temporary. Nothing replaces meeting together in person!

Also, quilts are better in person too!

This is the 2nd quilt I made in a quilt class at the Stitchin' Post in Sisters.

I even hand quilted it!

I think this is the only label I've ever cross stitched.
The front of this quilt is showing its 26 year age, but the back is still bright.
I'm getting a specific lecture ready and need to take good photos.
The last few are fairly large and I'm going to need some help hanging them.

Piles here. Piles there....

I'm not planning on any company for awhile, so I guess that's a good thing!

I am committing to doing lectures on Zoom and hope to figure it out enough to do a workshop this fall.

If you are interested in an online Zoom lecture for your guild, please let me know!

After 5 months a letter from Italy made it Madras! That was in quarantine for a really long time! Rina and I thought for sure it was never going to be seen again. LOL

I had 6 friends recover from Covid. One is over 80! We hear the doom and gloom but very rarely the good news. Most people are recovering from this virus!! I'm so sorry for those who have lost loved ones- I have friends who have lost family members to Covid. We will get through this!!

Much love to you all...

Construction Zone!

Oh my goodness, what an ordeal it was for me to get these scrub hats completed!  I'll just leave it at that....
I got a bit more creative with the fabrics this time.

They are going in the mail to Julie in TX today!
I just finished this book. It feels like it took me forever as some nights I could only read a few pages before dropping off to sleep.  I enjoyed it a lot and had no idea this went on during WW2.

Elsa and I went for a beautiful hike on Saturday.
Many of these areas will be permit only next year so it won't be as easy to go at the last minute.

We had an amazing 360 degree view. There used to be a fire lookout at the top. Those mountains out there are the 3 Sisters, Faith, Hope and Charity.
The Cory and I went kayaking- it is fun to mix it up!

I hope you all are doing well. Life is stressful right now, but planning some outdoor activities keeps me sane!

Love ya!

The next step to the Buhl Bushong is the borders I've been working on for several months.

The first step will be to trim them near the line I made above the flowers. I'll be adding the borders to the center section I shared on Wednesday, then appliqueing the corner flowers on.

I mentioned I was going to go huckleberry picking... I forgot how tedious it is!
It isn't like farm grown berries. I wore shorts and got totally scratched up too!

Yummy! It was totally worth it!

Of course while in the mountains I took a short, steep hike...

With a giant view! (hopefully the short video is working!)

If not go here:

Mountain lily, which is getting harder to find.

Stretched my legs a bit around Timothy Lake.

Have an amazing weekend!!

Ta-Da! Buhl Bushong Center!

Yay! I got a little bit of time this week to finish the applique on the center section and get it all sewn together!! I used some different muslin, which I love! It seems to antique the quilt from the get-go! Uhhh I'm hoping the burn mark makes it looks aged too!!! Aargh!
Here's my helpers!

It has been ages since I've been sick so this is no surprise. For a short time the Red Cross is doing a Covid antibody test when you donate blood. For those that test positive for the antibody, you can donate plasma to help those suffering from covid.

I'm going to look for huckleberries today! Yum!

Have a terrific day!

Buhl Bushong Repeated

One more quadrant complete! I only have the buds to applique on the final 4 blocks, sew them together, then get the center blocks together! So nice to think about this getting closer to a finish.
Cory was off this weekend and we went for a picnic and this was our view!
Elsa and I got out early Sunday for a walk. Mt Jefferson was looking rather regal.

Thank you for your kind comments about our women's gathering.
We are hoping to hold a Part 2, Q & A

I hope your weekend was wonderful adn you are looking forward to a great week!
